Ok last year played ME1 on my PC on top graphics without a problem whatsoever...... Recently finished ME2 and was so in love with it that I wanted to play the first one again so found the cd installed it fine.... The menu comes up fine and the music plays in the background BUT when I click play the screen just goes black with the mouse cursor stuck on loading.............. I can't give you the spec's for my PC because I'm actually in a different house at the moment....

Anyway I searched the internet for AGES and eventually found this solution
forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php

When I did the thingy about the OpenAL32  and wrap etc etc............. It worked! The game started I could have jumped for joy, started up fine made a profile customised my Shepard started the game..... And noticed the sound was a bit weird...... Then it got REALLY weird. People sound fine but will then becomed muffled so can bearly here them and gun shots aer the same, it makes the game not worth playing because the sound is so messed up..........

So my question is how do I fix this!? Did I screw up the sound by doing that fix on steam? How can I fix the black screen then?

If this is just ANOTHER problem how can I fix that?

Please help really need it lol Posted Image

Sounds to me like OpenAL is conflicting with other systems drivers, perhaps even your original audio driver if you didn't uninstall them before installing OAL. It's kind of hard to say since you haven't told us much about your system. Maybe you should uninstall OpenAL, and go back and try to fix your original drivers. Check for updates available for both your graphics card and audio. Also, do you have the latest patch for Mass Effect? I'm pretty sure the most recent one has come out within the past 6 months or so, which would be since you last played the game. There's been a fair amount of people reporting audio issues like this, so you might find others who have found a definite fix that works for you.
