I hate the very notion of company exclusive rights. There is no reason ME2 can't be on ps3 except Microshaft's boundless greed.

Each platform will have its advantages, but exclusive access to certain games should not be one of them.

Oh please, Bill Gates invented you.

And secondly, it's entirely up to the software developers wether to give exclusive rights to their product, MS simply offers them perhaps one of the most advanced  game development studios in the world.  In exchange, MS gets to slap a big butterfly on it and say "No PS 3! Get your own developers Sony!"

It could be worse though, we could all have macs. Image IPB

Still
my two cents on your graphics argument:
I care about the graphics,
its not 1992 or 1998 or 2000 anymore mate, and I often wondered over the
years what baldur's gate and fallout series might have been like using
the Unreal, Aurora, or Electron, hell even the Crytek engine. Graphics
(while some dismiss them) add an all important extra dimension to
gaming, the visual experience. Otherwise there'd be no reason for nvidia
or ati to make new ones, no one would care about the Playstations or
XBoxes, or Sega Saturns etc, and we would all have been happy to play
stuff like guild of thieves on the Atari ST or the text based Hobbit.
Yes bad graphics break a game, just like good graphics can immerse you
in another world. There's a huge number of examples out there all you
need to do is look.

Wait....

Yes
bad graphics break a game, just like good graphics can immerse you in
another world.

Are you Serious? Seriously
serious? I've been playing PS1 games for the past week and they're just
as good as the day I freaking bought them. What are you talking about,
man (girl?)
1. So... you're saying that you didn't, or don't, play
PS1-PS2, everything 'cept new gen. consoles because the graphics are
bad? Wow, whatever. Nothing more to say.
2. Most gamer (well those
like me), those like myself who play games because of story, gameplay,
etc. not graphics, disagree. Did you know that a texted based zombie
game has over a million members? Freaking Java-based Runescape has over
10 million players. lol. Whatever. Done.

END OF LINE.

First
of all I simply stated my opinion there's no need to be agressive or
rude, secondly I'm not actually a girl (not that it  has any impact on
this argument)
I'm not saying anything of the sort actually,
you seem to be getting a little bit ahead of yourself and overly
agressive, I actually still own both a PS1 and a PS2 and a SNES (Still
Play SFII FYI), and i still enjoy games like Rollcage, MGS, Driver I & II and God of War i
& II, the Jak & Daxter
series, MGS2, Tekken Tag, 4 & 5 among
others, I'm not talking about old school previous generation graphics
(I have seen more than a few gens in my time) I'm talking about bad
and good graphics, bland repetitive badly textured, lack of
shadows and lighting, bad rigging and worse animation, a bad visual
experience, and well conceived, lit and executed graphics that really
give that bit extra to your gameplay.
2. I have no argument there, if
my ST was still around I would still be
playing Guild of Thieves, I also play a lot of DA:Journeys for example
(where time permits that is)

Please, try to be more objective and
look at my point of view more carefully, I agree with you partly, in
tha while graphics are not the A and Ω of a game, they often play a big
role in a game and are not to be dismissed, as I said they add an extra
dimension, there are quite a few examples of games that were suffereddue
to bad visual sdevelopment, and others so seamless you couldnt tell
cutscene from gameplay. Can you enjoy a text based Doom or other FPS as
much as you can on a good resolution screen? I doubt it, but if you can
tie graphics, sound, story and gameplay together well, you have a real
winner. Graphics are the extra bonus or cherry on the cake not the
basis, everything starts out on paper.

Dismissal of graphics cant be the same across the board, there are a number of
game genres that benefit and/or depend on a good graphics engine.

In any case our argument has gone rather off topic, it was good to exchange views with you mate, I agree with you but I also disagree.

Well, one last reply. I didn't mean to sound aggresive. It appears I took what you said the wrong way. I get what you're saying, completely. The graphics add to the immersion and do make the game better. I agree. While they aren't the most important thing there, it's certaintly an added bonus that adds to the game's feel and appreciation.

I just thought you were saying that you only played new gen games. lol. My bad.

Sorry 'bout that. Image IPB

They weren't bought out. They signed an exclusive publishing deal.

As for people not wanting it on PS3? Those are just annoying fanboys ****s who the competition between two monolithic companies is some kind of holy war.

Buts its more of a question of can they do not should they. Microsoft published the first ME. I'm not sure if that prevents Bioware from porting it over, but it surely makes it more difficult. Not to mention I doubt anyone at Bioware wants to take the time to port a 3 year old game instead of doing something new.

they can go the god of war collection route by updating the graphics of me1 and tweek the controlls a bit to make it easy for the ps3 players. im a 360 person and honestly the only reason why microsoft owns the rights to me1 i because they payed the big cash for it. now since e.a bought bioware maybe e.a can buy those rights back?

I think Mass Effect should stay on 360. PS3 has enough great exclusives to speak of, but that's not the 360's case. So ME stay one of them, IMO.

Oh, and before anyone freaks out, I also own a PS3 :)

That doesn't make any sense. A several year old game doesn't sell consoles anyway. Exclusivity and other shady business handlings are what's choking the game industry anyway.

You can't avoid exclusives. We'll never see a Metroid game outside a Nintendo system, and that's the way it is, no matter the potential of having it on other console or whatsoever. So, in that plane, it's better for each platform to have a couple of unique stuff going for it, or else, what's the point of having one system over another? Just brand? MS hasn't got that much first party development as other consoles, so that's why I'd rather have it as an exclusive.

But then again, that's just my opinion. I'm not stating a fact or anything.

This post symbolizes everything wrong with gamers today.
And protip: Mass Effect isn't Xbox exclusive. Ever hear about that PC version? The one drastically better than the console version?
Troll harder.

I really don't care for exlusive thingy, I don't have PS3 but it does not make their games any worse and I would like to try some of their titels. But alas I don't plan to spend money on new console. These console wars are way too stupid to join them. Would be nice if everyone could agree to keep PC as a neutral ground... anyway back to the topic:

So far I don't want ME to come on PS3 is just due to simple and very selfish reason: I want ME3 to come out as soon as possible with as much DLC for ME2/3 as they can. And if they will start to port ME to PS3 then they either have to:

- relocate some of the people to PS3 project

- hire new people and lower the budged for XBox/PC development

In both case it will result in lower quality of ME3 or longer development times.

But if another company will do porting or they will port game after they are done with ME3 then I will be just much more happier for so many "PS3 only" gamers that would enjoy this game and join our army of mindless fanatics.

good explain, it takes more time for developing the game and lowers the quality.
better buy a PC, than make Bioware to build games for PS3

That's rather silly reasoning. Why would they need to hire new people or reallocate anyone?  BioWare could easily just push the port onto another company. It's not like they haven't done so before, case in point. Dragon Age: Origins.

I wrote that IF they hire another comapny to port then its ok with me.

Just to be clear about my first post: I didn't reason against PS3 version. Game is a game, let everyone play it. But it *might* invole delays of ME3 or lower quality of it, unless work is outsourced to another company. So if proting ME to PS3 will have no impact on ME3 development/quality then Im only up for it. Otherwise, would rather ask BW to wait with porting untill they are done with ME3.

I could care less if it moves to the PS3.

Most of the heated discussion is the strange world of  Pro-Console  A or B, trying to explain why one is better than the other when simularities and real differences are few to find.

In fact --- the whole discussion dies when you see many people buying BOTH systems.

I don't care that ME went to the PS3, its just the fact they had to sacrafice ME1 to do it into this hybride, cliff-note" Pick your choices and move on" type of chop-shop move... where you just suddenly realise that  ME1 is more or less dissolved into a distant memory while your suposed to see ME2 as the new ME1.

Otherwise...

So what.

I won't get it for the PS3 because why the hell am I going to buy a game at a full price after knowing what happens in it and its a reproduction of a product I already used?  Not me.  Reduced maybe... but you won' t see me popping 60.00 for a 1-2 year old game.  What ever --- for the fanatics " that just have to"...I say... freedom is good. Use it as you like.

I think I speak for many by saying that....

I would rather have had BW work on ME3 than worry about some PS3 move with  No.2  in order to a decent release date than what I've been hearing....  what was it... 2012?  I mean wow --- thats a long @#$@#$#@$ time.

thats Microsoft's fault for relying on 3rd party developers too much. once EA bought Bioware it was but a given that the Mass Effect franchise was going go multi platform. Dragon Age is on both so it makes sense.

I don't mind it, but it seems like they're spending all their time on these 'on the side' things and doing just about everything except working on ME3. January 2011 will be a year since ME2 came out, I want teasers on ME3, but that won't happen, instead I'll get a new batch of elitists infiltrating my favorite gaming series.

I have no problem with a PS3 edition of Mass Effect 2. But since ME1 apparently won't come to the PS3 I think that PS3 owners will be at a disadvantage since Mass Effect is meant to be a trilogy, with all your choices carrying over from one game to the next.

Steak wrote...

Steak, did you have to revive a four months old thread for this, instead of making a new one? I was about to respond to some of the earlier posts in this thread when I realized that almost the whole thread was made long before ME2 for PS3 was actually announced.
