Greetings,
basically, the problem I am facing at the moment is that I can not save my games. Whenever I try to save the game I get a nasty error message which says: 'General protection fault' and at the bottom history: fwrite_nolock() address: and some numbers. Would be glad if someone has a solution to this problem. Cheers.

You see, the problem here is that I can actually play the game, but whenever I try to save, I get that error message. Just for the record I tried all kinds of drivers on my system:)

Do you have a Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save directory under My Documents? If not, creating one might well fix it.

I think the game automatically creates that folder and yes, I tried deleting and recreating the save folders numerous times. Any more help would be apriciated.

I'm really not sure what it could be, but...
Is the game installed to the same drive that My Documents is on? What file system is used by the partition that My Documents is on? (right-click on C: or whatever partition it is, click Properties)
Where did you get the game from? And if it's a retail copy, have you patched it to 1.02?

The game is not installed in the same drive where My documents is on. The game is installed on FAT32 file system and My documents in NTFS. Actually maybe that is the case. I have patched the game to 1.02.

I haven't heard of this causing crashes, but I have heard of it preventing saving. I seem to recall there being a file that specifies the path, but I can't find it; maybe I'm mixing ME1 up with ME2...

I have no reason to think the formatting would be causing a problem, but I figured I'd throw it out there.
