Liara, - Nice support character, no interest however.
Kaiden - *bashes head against wall* feeling he gives me.
Ashley - racist *****, Could care less about her
Jack - psychopath. why would I keep one on my ship? I highly doubt she'll stick around wiht my personality anyway after sucide mission.
Miranda - Too assertive and too much of an pain in my ***.
Samara/Morinth (Morinth should be next to Samara by the way,since it's an either/or) - Either gone, or an vampire that needs to just disappear.
Jacob - Bland, sorry dude, got more interesting characters.

Personally, if I had an choice, it would be choose 6-7 squadmates from an pool of 15 suriving members. Have fun. Easy choice, no stupid recuitment mission etc etc. Be ready to go right off the bat.

Correction: You only have 15 characters MAX alive in any one continuous playthrough, and Kasumi was paid DLC (not everyone might have her). That knocks it down to 14 on an optimistic note.



If we're still going for the limit of 10...I'd ditch:



Zaeed: He's badass, but inconsequental.

Liara: I kinda her character, but she has a lot of potential even as a non-recruitable.

Grunt/Wrex: It's one or the other, I like both equally.

Jacob: Also a perfectly fine character, but depressingly one-dimensional.



And that'll get me down to 10.

Note: 'Canon' refers to the pre-set ME3 conditions if you did not upload a saved game from ME1 -->/ ME2.

My projections: 

Zaeed and Katsumi will be squadmates in ME3 if you complete their loyalty missions successfully, probably with expanded dialogue options. They won't appear any other way, not even as NPCs. This is a way of rewarding people who downloaded them and beat ME2 with them, and therefore encourages newcomers who just purchased ME3 to buy both ME2 and its DLC so they can get a better experience.

Miranda, Jacob, Mordin, Garrus, Grunt, and Jack will be automatic ME3 squadmates if they survived ME2, except maybe Jack if you didn't do her loyalty mission (in which case, she will show up as an enemy). In the 'canon', one idea I have is that Miranda will be dead if you are female Shep and Jacob will be dead if you are male Shep, and that Garrus will be dead either way. So, the canon will have 4 characters to start with, all of them unloyal, 3 if an unloyal Jack does not stay onboard the Normandy.

Samara, Thane, and Tali will be automatic NPCs if they survived ME2. Samara will be an NPC no matter what, Thane and Tali will be NPCs unless they were romanced, in which case they will join the automatics as squadmates at the beginning of the game. In the 'canon', they will probably all be dead. They will not show up in any capacity unless you uploaded the via a ME2 saved game.

Legion will be a squadmate if he survived ME2. 'Canon' Shepard goes the pro-Human route, so Legion will probably be scrap metal for Cerberus in the canon.

Loyalty Missions will not alter a character's presence, but they will alter its role. A loyal Samara NPC will help Shepard convince the Asari Republics to join him against the Reapers, for example. Loyal squadmates will either contribute to mission success rates, game ease, or rewards, somehow.

Wrex most likely will not be a squadmate, but he will be an actively involved NPC. He is dead in the canon. ME1 characters will only be recruitable if you romanced them, even if you cheated on them (although if you cheated on them, they might be susceptible to Indoctrination and betray you). Which means ME1 characters will not be recruitable in the canon, because 'canon' Shepard didn't romance anyone.

This is basically a, "What are your seven least favorite ME characters?" question. 

I don't really have any. I can't extract the characters from their roles in the story. Just dropping 7 characters because I don't like them would turn out an inferior story if it was ever executed, because it disregards all the protocol that makes ME an interesting multiple-paths story experience. However: 

Miranda and Jacob don't do much for me compared to the rest. Ashley/Kaidan and Liara are also points of disinterest and have already been effectively dropped from the story (although Bioware will bring back them back with a vengeance in uploaded games). I don't think Wrex will be a recruitable character, and Katsumi and Zaeed don't even 'exist' in the ME universe unless you download them, so my final three to drop would probably be, reluctantly: Jack, Samara/Morinth, and Thane.

All of my choices are characters that I really don't care if they fall into a black hole and don't even make a cameo in ME3, except for Wrex.  The man has work to do keeping the krogan in line.... I mean leading his people.

If I had to pick seven, they would be, in no particular order:
1. Wrex
2. Zaeed
3. Kasumi
4. Jack
5. Thane
6. Jacob
7. Mordin

Mostly either because the interest of fans isn't all that good, or because they have pretty solid in-game reasons to not be there.  Or because someone else is better suited to their job.

Wrex: I like Wrex, but has far more important issues than tagging along with Shepard

Mordin: I would rather that Mordin return as the Normandy's head scientist rather than participate in the fighting (developing anti-reaper tech does tend to be a significant time sink)

Jacob: I have nothing against Jacob, his only significant fault was being to normal/average.

Jack: She is more of a liability than an asset (horrible way to describe her giving her childhood) to Shepard's crew. Unless the paragon romance path is taken, Jack still remains a sociopath.

Thane: Thane is dying, and unless a miracle cure is created (serious cop-out if this proves true), Thane should spend his last moments with his son.

Miranda+Kasumi: Nothing against them in particular, but I had to narrow it down to my favorites.



Morinth would have been on the list, but that would mean excluding Samara, who happens to be one of my favorite ME2 characters.
