I was curious on stats. I read the guide JosieJ posted in a link, and am trying to understand stats They show baseline dex, cun, str and then give all these requirements like 20str for armor, 30dex then all in cunning, but what i see is more 15str + 5 from gear. I dont understand since you need the 20 to wear some light gear. Example from Discobird's guide

D: DAGGER/DAGGER CUN

This rogue will have pre-gear stats of:

Str: 15 + 5 (to wear T7 light armor early)

Dex: 21 + 9 = 30

Cun: 20 + 46 = 66

* Mainhand: Rose's Thorn (6.4 base damage, 8 AP, +2 dex, +3 damage, +30% crit damage)

* Offhand: Thorn of the Dead Gods (6 dam, 7 AP, +3 damage, +3 AP)

* Helm: Helm of Honnleath (+2 str, +2 dex, +2 cun)

* Chest: Felon's Coat (+6 dex, +9 defense)

* Gloves: Red Jenny Seekers (+15% crit damage)

* Boots: Cadash Stompers or Silverhammer's Tackmasters (+2 dex) (Cadash has extra mods of minor benefit but also increases hostility)

* Belt: Andruil's Blessing (+2 str, 2 dex, +2 cun)

* Amulet: nothing improves DPS

* Ring: Key to the City (+2 str, +2 dex, +2 cun)

* Ring: Dusk Ring (+3 cun, -1 str)

Final stats including gear:

Str: 20 + 5 = 25

Dex: 30 + 16 = 46

Cun: 66 + 9 = 75

Unbuffed attack rating: 91.5 (55 base + 25.5 attribs + 6 combat training + 5 DW finesse)

Unbuffed defense rating: 118 (50 base + 18 leveling + 36 dex + 9 gear + 5 DW finesse)

So what I am asking is do i build to the 15 or 20str (same with dex) or use gear (some of that isn't till later)?. I now realize I did my tank way wrong but he is in Awakenings and I will be able to respec.

Lots of gear gives you stat bonuses: everything from rings and belts to armor and helmets. You can use that kind of gear to boost your stats up to a point that you can equip other gear.

For example, let's say your DEX is currently 30, but you want to equip a t7 bow that calls for 34 DEX. But you have in your inventory a ring that boosts your DEX by 2 and a helmet that also boosts it by 2. By wearing both of them, you'll bring your DEX up to the required 34 and can equip the bow. Once the bow is equipped, you could wear a different ring or helmet, although you'll have to use them again if you unequip the bow in order to equip it again.

Talents, spells and skills, on the other hand, only go by your raw stat score, so you can't equip stat-boosting items in order to pick talents/spells/skills.

So, basically, you'll want to have a general idea of the talents/skills/spells you'll want to end up with.  You'll have to boost your stats at least that far, as you can't use stat-boosting equipment to pick them.  Then, once that's out of the way, if you have a general idea of what equipment you want to use, and what equipment you'll have a reasonable chance of ending up with, you can plan any further additions to your stats based on what you guess your boosted stats will be.

Or, not--really, unless you're a confirmed min/maxer, a few points difference here and there aren't going to be a big deal, as long as your PC is functioning well, you have the talents you want and can wear the equipment you want.

(hent read the entire thread, just most of first page)

While playing a tank is appealing to some.. Not for me.  I rolled a DW Warrior with Berserk/Champion for my first playthough and the difference between my Warden and Alistair & Sten at level 19 was Huge.. Alistair was just a big wall of flesh, and the only thing Sten & Ogren (both fully specc'd 2handers) had to contribute was slow but high dammage... With the occasional big aoe trip they have.. But my DW warrior?  He could nearly end most encounters before they even started.. Whirlwhind, Duel weapon sweep, Berserk, Momentum, Reposit for stuns, and Punisher? WIth starfang & Keening blade it was just silly..

My vote goes for the DW warrior.. mine accounted for at least 70% of my party dammage.
