Well.. I experinced the same problem, i had the Blood Dragon armor, and collectors items.. only to lose them at the start of Awakening,

P.s. I know why it's called Awakening, apparently you wakeup after one hell of a party, were you apparently got Badass mugged..

So whats the point..

P.p.s completed the game in less than 18 hours..

NOT worth the Prize of 250 DKR. (≥ 50$ ≥ 35€)

Well, short compared to DAO.

Still longer playtime then most games today.

feeling better now that you got that off your chest?

Rhys Cordelle wrote...

After I am hailed a hero by Queen Anora I farewell my wonderful companions and head out the doors to greet my adoring public, and so ends Origins. Then Awakenings begins and my first quest is to go fetch some bandages. Suitably epic.

I open my inventory to suit up and find that Awakenings has stolen my Warden Commander armor... which is slightly ironic given that the plot has just appointed me as the new Warden Commander, and more than slightly aggrevating considering I paid cold, hard cash to get that armor.

The darkspawn that have invaded the castle are nothing more than minor distractions that pose absolutely no challenge to me and my very forgettable, very generic female companion. A short dialogue with her results in +10 approval rating and I cringe to realise that this may be an indication that she is a permanent fixture in my party.

When I met Anders I had to wonder if the plot had leapt forward 20 years or so, because I could swear I was looking at the inbred offspring of Morrigan and Alistair. Sadly he lacks both Alistairs charm and Morrigans wit, but he seems to be trying very hard to match both.

Bring on Oghren! Thank goodness, I was beginning to consider playing this thing solo. Only....that's not the Oghren I know. He's been replaced by a doppelganger that shows almost no sign of having ever travelled with me before, and seems to be unsure if his voice is deep enough to mimic the original Oghren, so he overcompensates with a voice more akin to that retard Murdoch from Redcliffe. Would it really have been so difficult to let Oghren maintain his point and skill allocation that I gave him in Origins?

I continue to make my way through the keep, battling disappointingly weak darkspawn that wither and die at the very sight of my new, somewhat over the top abilities. Experience, gold and godlike gear is thrown at me like I've just won the Wardens Lottery, and pretty soon Anders is levelling up. He recieves a spell that freezes every darkspawn in the vicinity, without harming allies one bit... because what I really needed was to make this easier. I pick up a +10 spellpower ring and proceed to destroy it in disgust.

Now I encounter the talking darkspawn. This should be interesting. Imagine the wealth of knowledge I could glean through prolonged torture. But rather than find out the location of broodmothers and their top secret plans for world domination, Oghren declares it's scull-cracking time, and the talking darkspawn orders his forces to kill us... his forces being two Hurloks and a Genlok, with narry an Emissary between 'em.

Surely, then, this talking darkspawn must be so epic in power that he needs no assistance, and yet Anders can tank him. As I watch, I find myself rooting for the darkspawn. I always did have a thing for the underdog.

After the battle I invoke the Rite of Conscription on Anders, without having had any opportunity to determine whether or not that's a good idea, because I can't friggin initiate dialogue with any of my companions, and a Joining Ritual beings, hosted by a man who is...not...a grey...warden...right... Oghren tries for comic relief with some contrived grumblings about getting a small cup for a short man, despite the cup being as big as his fat head, then burps as his eyes roll back in his head. Anders survives... yay... and I am treated to my first warm fuzzy as the generic female companion goes the way of Daveth. Moving on.

An old woman makes reference to my liberation of Soldiers Peak and I am tempted to throw something at my screen. Apparently Awakenings can recognise the efforts I made in the DLC, but it doesn't want me to keep my rewards.

I am told there is a thief in the dungeons, which is fantastic news because I could do with a thief. Turns out this thief is the son of the man who had my friends and family murdered in Highever, and he's got a chip on his shoulder for taking his keep. Diddums.

Nathaniel Howe looks more like Generic Commoner 3 from Denerim, and he continually advises me that he aims to kill me, yet I have the option to invoke the Rite of Conscription... again. Everyone in the room looks at me like I'm completely insane, and I shrug and try to explain that I really want to be able to pick the lock on the chest outside. At least Zevran was only trying to kill me because he was paid to, but here I am witnessing the second joining ritual in as many hours of gameplay, for a guy that has sworn a blood vendetta against me.

Suddenly I feel the urge to restart Origins.

Not really, no. I want to like Awakenings as much as Origins.

I'm with whoever mentioned recruiting Leliana. I don't see any reason why Zevran and/or Leliana  couldn't have carried through to Awakenings. Not everyone is an Oghren fan.

Putting everyone you come across in Awakening through the Joining was quite jarring for me, at first. It's like "hey, stranger, you are an effective murderer, how about directing some of that potential at the darkspawn." Exactly how am I as a player supposed to take the duties of the Grey Wardens seriously when nearly none of my party members do?

you might want to read the calling. it gives a lot of insight into the wardens and their methods.

I do want to read the Calling. I think I'm going to order those books right now, actually.

Maybe it was jarring for me because the threat of the Blight was so much more pressing in the first game. The responsibility of the Blight was heavier because the two of us were the only ones who could stop it, and save Ferelden. We went from that in the first game, where I was expected to make signficiant personal sacrifices, to the second game where we were recruiting anyone who tries to kill us first (only slightly exaggerated).  I don't like to accept that I am just a weapon against the Blight and nothing more, that there is no honor involved, and that right and wrong do not matter. That's not how I wanted to recruit. I wanted to recruit heroes.

With the Wardens, I think it's more about who can get the job done. Not many willingly choose to become Wardens. It's a death sentence.

Not really

Wardens usually live for 30 years after the Joining (unless they get killed).

The average lifespan in a middle-age country like Ferelden is 40 to 50.

So unless they join when they are only 10 being a Warden can quite possible make their life longer.

was a baldurs gate 1 and 2+throne of bhaal (unofficial mod ascension writen by david g i think)

Those games were made years ago yet i still feel bg2 plus expansion(and mod) were much bigger and far superior story.

To make a game as big as baldurs gate 2 that's in 3d and has voice acting for every single thing that's said would be a major undertaking.

I kind of have to eat my words a bit. I restarted Awakenings as an Orlesian Warden and I've gotta say I'm enjoying it a lot. It's still not that challenging but at least it's not a cakewalk if you use a brand new character, and I'm really liking how I have to make all these decisions to try and do what's right for the arling. It was easier to justify bringing along Nathaniel without having the history with Rendon Howe, and I actually have gotten to like him. Anders has grown on me too (him and Ser Pounce-alot :) ). Valenna makes Morrigan look positively sweet, but she's an interesting character nonetheless. But Justice is by far my favourite. Awesome, awesome character.

What's freakish is that Nathaniel Howe IS my character.

He's a Archer-Thief Human Male Noble.

I, too, was extremely disappointed by Awakening. Setting aside the issue of bugs (which is a -very- large issue), here's what I disliked:

The awesome new abilities do not work in Origins vanilla and have level requirements so high that by the time I get them, I don't need them.

Velanna is too much like Morrigan and Anders is too much like Alistair. They feel like composite characters, (Morrigan-as-Dalish, Alistair-as-Mage) not like distinct people.

Oghren's approval rating for my character doesn't carry over, his reactions during conversation are vastly different (leading to playful banter that used to give approval now resulting in sharp approval drops), and he's altogether much more annoying than previous.

Alistair was far, far too distant/formal during his cameo. I went through the scene with my Human Noble who executed Loghain and ended the game at max approval with Alistair and my Dwarf Commoner who recruited Loghain and ended the game at odds with Alistair, and it played out -exactly- the same.

Overpowered items were far too easily gained, lying around all over the place. I deliberately refused to replace my Origins gear just for the heck of it, and found it much more satisfying to wear the equipment I used to personally slay an archdemon.

Armor design seemed strange. The Hirol's Defense set is supposed to be dwarven armor, but it looks absolutely nothing like any other set of dwarven armor we've seen and has the same basic model as human massive armor. It breaks immersion and continuity. That said, it was an absolutely amazing-looking armor, which is why I was glad to realize I could get a set after seeing Alistair wearing it, when he should have been wearing that golden armor set (identical to Cailin's) that he was seen with at the coronation. Also, I can't be the only one who thinks that the Sentinel set is butt-ugly, can I? I never understood the obsession with black armors in the first place, but a black Effort model? Really?

Mhairi died. I -hated- that. I was really looking forward to a strong, female companion that wasn't a rogue or mage and could tank, was eager to join the Warden's, and seemed like definite A-list material. Instead, she died, and the two recruitable women were . . a rogue and a mage. Bleh.

The game seemed too short. I didn't have time to really form a connection with any of my companions, never got to settle into the role of Warden-Commander/Arl, etc.

To offset that, things I liked:

Wynne! Her cameo was much, much better than Alistair's. Sigrun was awesome, especially if you're a Dwarf Commoner. Nathaniel was cool, especially for a Human Noble. The backstory to the Architect and the Mother was intriguing. Kal'Hirol was an excellent level and I really got into it. Wade and Herren showed up and were hilarious. Party banter was, like the original, definitely top-notch and hilarious.
