I agree with this guy, except the narcissist I am not one, but why should you settle for being the safe guy, if a girl decided to pick to sleep around with ****s then she should live with it, it was her choice, I wouldnt be that guy because I would always feel like I was second best, and I dont like being second to some people e.g the egomaniacal kid, who thinks he is the second coming of Jesus but hes just an **** who thinks he is better than everyone else. One of my main dislikes is people who are full of themselves and just annoying.
So yeah if someone decides to make you the safe guy, ignore them you can do much better, chances are if you are the safe guy your relationship will crumble eventually as old habbits die hard. Not being sexist here because the roles can easily be reversed.

Aren't you projecting a bit of negativity when there is none?  So what she has had alot of sexual partners that doesn't mean anything.  How do you know that that means anything about you?  Do you demand all the women you be with be virginal or that means you are inferior somehow?

I would probably be one of them--  or I'd just play a male character and leave the porn star lead to the guys who "want to stare at a girl avatar" when they play.

And once again a beautiful and feminine woman is seen as sub human and/or not competent.  Sad.

Piffle Valmy.  There's a difference between being beautiful and feminine and being a bimbo.  Really.  Look, maybe I'm no judge, but I think FemShep IS beautiful and feminine.

I mean, Sigourney Weaver is a beautiful actress--  here she is looking like she's finished a hard day fighting Collectors Xenomorphs:

Totally realistic, and the kind of action heroine that we should see more of (and this was back in the 80s!)

Meanwhile, we still see a lot more of these kind of leads.  There's a demographic this appeals to, but it's not mine, sorry.  And no, I'm not some man hater, and I do dress up, just not when I have to walk the dog save galaxies:

The bottom picture lead  typically appears in Japanese games. And if you haven't noticed the
male leads in Japanese games are usually 15 year old boys who look like
females.

Wow, I disagree with so much in this thread.

When they made the first game they probably didn't think they'd have a large female audience, so they catered to the male audience with a detailed default Mshep.  It would be kind of weird to switch the promotional materials up for later games then, when on the box art of the first, this 'John Shepard' dude seems to be clearly established as the main character.  Also, more guys tend to play video games than girls, so marketing it to the minority audience doesn't really make sense. And yeah, with the movement models, they used one for both.  I honestly don't notice it that much with my Fshep (although it doen sometimes look like she has a limp, haha.).  It would just be a lot of work to add in a new set of movement animations for the main character, and I'm perfectly happy to deal with it and have the effort directed elsewhere.
And strippers in bars? Really?  They're seedy clubs/bars.  What do you expect?  I'm pretty sure Ashley even comments on it in a rather disparaging way "I'm not sure whether to be depressed or amused" or something.
Jacob's romance dialogue I'm kind of torn about.  That's a horribly cheesy opening line, I'll admit.  But the rest of the dialogue isn't bad and once he gets his shirt off, they actually animate him to do this 'shy look' thing, which is awesomely adorable.  FShep is definitely the aggressive one in that romance too.

I'm also bugged by the completely no-effort default femshep in later games, the fact that some characters like Miranda and Samara are wearing tight revealing body suits and heels.. even when exposed in space (like the entrance to the collector vessle, a teensy face mask? really?)   Miranda's suit I can kind of understand, because Jacob's also form fitting suit seems to be made of the same material, so maybe it's some type of kevlar deal, but that's still not a good reason to have your cleavage and entire head uncovered when standing out in space.  And the Camera angles were a bit daunting at times, yeah  (we get it already! she has an awesome ass!).

No but if she was never interested in  you before, and suddenly she is its obvious your now the safe guy, if someone slept with someone I couldnt care less, but if she was never interested in  you and chose ****s instead why should you just be the one to fall back on. You dont ignore someone for X months/years then suddenly decide you want to be with them.

All I see in this thread is a lot of whining from people who think the game was made for "men who don't want to grow up". Yet they are the ones crying about a "GAME" - of all things.

Sigh..
