Mass Effect 1 was no different... Ash is introduced as pink-armored sexy-butt who you "save" (pulling from beacon) and she's immediately up in sick bay practically throwing herself at Shepard. And then Liara comes aboard and is instantly in love as well.



Give me a break.

I actually grew to like Liara, but that introduction was off-putting.

You're generalizing, as perhaps is the OP. You can't just categorize people like that. I'd sooner shoot myself in the foot than let a womanizer lay his hands on me.

That applies to female Shepards too. Kaidan does the same basic things Ashley does, and Liara acts like that no matter your gender...

[*]As for same sex romances, I think Bioware made the right call cutting them. The characters should be set in stone, I wouldn't like to see the game where every character is essentially bisexual. I don't even like that everyone wants Shepard, I've only done one romance in ME2 with Miranda, my femshep stayed loyal to Kaidan. I watched how they play out on youtube though, what i really liked was that Samara rejects you. I think more romances should be able to play out this way, I mean you can reject anyone but only Samara rejects you, it doesn't seem real. Maybe based on some of the choices you make on loyalty missions characters could reject your advances. I dunno, is that already in the game? Does Miranda still like you if you don't tell her to talk to her sister? Tali if you give the evidence to the admirals?

[*]If i remember correctly, in one of their interviews, they never intended to have Shepard be homosexual (that wasn't the wording, but it was implied). They created Mass Effect as a 3rd person narrative, while Dragon Age was created as a 1st person narrative. Shepard already had a past before any of the events in the first Mass Effect, and artificially making him to be homosexual did not align with how they viewed his character. Remember, homosexuality is still looked down upon in the military, so who iss to say that that method of thinking wouldn't continue?

But it's cool if they're girls, coz lesbians are hot, amirite?

The problem here is that there are no male homosexual romances, but multiple female ones--the game supports playing Femshep as a lesbian, even encourages it, since there are no unique male flirts for her but plenty of asari. If the argument is that female Shepard is equivalent to male Shepard, just with an X chromosome, then male Shepard should also be potentially bisexual, because Femshep sure can.

Unless they invent a history with shepard for every romance option they have to fast
track the romances. They are only a small (though important) part of the game after all.

I have to agree with the OP on her points.

My wife and I really love the Mass Effect story, and thought the love scene with Liara in the first game was very well done. Personally we didn't get why BioWare got so much grief for that scene, as it seemed to have been done very well. You don't have to see a naked body to know what is going on, if done well you know there having sex lol.

But playing Mass Effect 2, although the story was fantastic. It did feel like the writing for the love interests was written by a bunch of pervs hired off a porno chat site or something. It was really lacking in class, and felt more like when you hear gob****es in a pub talking with there mates on what they want to do to barmaid or something.

As for Mirandas camera angles. Yeah they were stupid and cheap looking. It didn't make you wantto have respect for Miranda due to her background or why she is on the mission and risking her life. Instead it felt like BioWare had access to a gorgious woman and got a little too excited and wanted to use Miransa as a sex symbol than a strong character.

Shepard was pretty creepy in this game when it came to chatting the women up. Where as the female Shepard came across as some kind of sex starved divorced milf or something. For the actual story and mission plot, I would give the writers a solid gold star, but the love scene writing was just embarressing.

Women and men alwayswalk differently, be they office workers or soldiers. I actually think the way male Shepard moved in the original Mass Effect would have been a good movement set for a female character.

You can't really find fault with her for being weird.  She's an alien, she's young, and she's a nerd. 

That's a lot to overcome.

The conversation with Aria after dealing with the Blood Pack assassins out to get the Patriarch led me to believe that Asari actually take advantage of the misconceptions about their race.  Aria's Asari consortium used sex as one of their weapons to take over Omega. 

The Asari are way smarter than anyone gives them credit for.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "dancers" were the actual "bouncers" at Afterlife ready to kick the crap out of someone if they got out of line.

And yeah, there really shouldn't be exotic dancers in a seedy nightclub run by criminals. 

As for Kelly, next time my MaleShep is on board the Normandy, I will remind my yeoman that attractice women with advanced degrees in psychology should stay geeky and silent.  How dare they express their sexuality!

I do agree with the notion that everything with estrogen and a heartbeat throwing themselves at Shepard really can be distracting and annoying sometimes.  Why does Tali have to fall for me? 

Why not Kal'Reegar?  He's just as big of a badass as I am and they can consumate their feelings without the whole worrying about violent allergic reactions.

Then again, you wouldn't get the wonderful dialogue from Mordin on the hazards of having sex with a humanoid with a Dextro DNA biochemistry.

I'm a girl, and I'm more annoyed my femshepard can't be more sexy, not to be confused with the term ****ty, as if all girls who play games are 100% tomboyish. This was rectified a bit with the dress you get from Kasumi's mission, which I think was brilliant. But I also wish there were pratical but still sexy outfits. They can't seem to mix the two together for femshep.



When she's in combat mode, fair enough, you can stick her in the ugliest thing ever but on the ship, we should have had better choice. There's no military protocol in me2 but the only non-uniform was an ugly-ass colony outfit before you get the dress.



I completelty understand why they made the other females the way they did, I just wish we had sexier guys too, it's like the stuff for the girls was a quick after thought. Definitley no more "the prize" talk stuff though. Garrus romance scene is the way to go, he's tough but has a gentle side for femshep. Not emotionally draining like Thane or rude like Jacob. Garrus has a nice balance, he's the one where I wish the romance scene lasted a bit longer.
