I'm assuming that's a quote or a reference to something. What's it from?

Ditto. They're so funny.
Do you think of them as a couple, though, or do you not? Or do you not care?

The fact that the dialog wheel line for asking Joker about his relationship with EDI is "Joker, are you flirting with the ship?" also lends some credence that at least Shepard is getting that impression.

I think that Joker's closer to EDI than he'd like to admit by the end of the game, but I don't think I would call it a 'relationship'.

Like I have said in other threads, people (young ones especially) tend to confuse the comfortable bickering between people who have an easy rapport with one another (yes, common in old, married couples, or people have been friends for a long time, or brother and sister) for flirting because of the indoctrination they've gotten from romantic comedies and sit-coms.

My brother and I bicker like that, and we sure as hell are not a couple, nor am I harboring any desires to cheat on my husband with high school buddies who I communicate with in a similar fashion.

This is also a fictional romance like those rom-com so why would it be different here, why would it be more "realistic" here?  Friendly bickering in real life doesn't automatically lead to romance, I know this, but this is fiction and it's a common theme in fiction.

I still say it's jealousy is the reason why joker fan girls don't see it Posted Image  I'm not against him getting made as a LI for you girls but you must see that those two have a small rom-com happening between them, and not just friendly bickering.

Joker's got EDI attending to his emotional needs and Chakwas to his physical ones - Femshep will never get out of the friend-zone with him now, sorry fangirls.

Well, I am pretty sure that EDI is Joker's true love, in a sence. For he seems to be the type who could love no person more than his ship, and EDI at the end of game can be considered the ship. Not a crewmember (they come and go), not a piece of equipment, but Normandy herself.

However, her relationship with Joker is strictly platonic, and need to remain that way.

I can agree with that. Still wish for Joker as an LI, but I get what you're saying.

I think EDI lays out pretty clearly that she and Joker aren't friendly that way. Still, I can totally see it. They flirt incessantly, even before they get friendly. Their little spats are very non-serious in nature and from the beginning I saw a lot of chemistry. There's also the fact that Seth Green calls it as much (a romance).

And yes, I know she's an AI. But she's still a sapient being and she's a lot closer to human psychology than someone like, say, Legion.

The body issue does provide a problem though.

Joker always has his hand, yes I went there and now I feel dirty

So, you don't know any people in RL who pretend to hate each other but are secretly having an affair? Especially considering the fact that Joker can't physically have a normal sexual relationship, why wouldn't he pour out all his affection on the Normandy and EDI? Mental love - the kind that keeps long distance relationships alive - isn't any less valid than physical love. People have gotten divorces over IRC relationships. One freak of a woman married the Berlin Wall. I'm not saying it isn't crazy, but it is certainly possible.

When someone's personality matches yours perfectly, and you work well together, and you enjoy each others company, and you have nothing/no one better to do, what's the point of not being in love? Is there a difference?

My Sheps have no interest in Joker, so I'm totally willing to let Joker run off with EDI, so long as they're still around when I need some flying done.

I could see it working provided EDI ends up with an artificial body like Data, but only that way.

Er... I was going to argue, but your reference is awesome.
We'll get her an emotion chip, then.
And a cat named Spot.

I'd prefer EDI looking like Andromeda in Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda...

Excluding the body she just seems, in my opinion, a bit more evolved compared to Data.
