So I finished the Ashes of Andraste thingy, got the Horn to summon the dragon. I was wondering if anyone knows a recommended level for when to fight the dragon.

I believe this game uses active scaling so no matter when you fight that High Dragon she is always going to be one tough customer. Level 6 or level 16, she is going to give you a run for your money. The only difference I can see is that later on your characters are more likely to be "mature" in terms of their overall balance by having access to more abilities and more spells - but the Dragon herself will hit just as hard and be just as tough.
So the answer is really how you have built your party and how you use them. My hints? Frost effects are your friend, as are dedicated ranged DPS members.

heh thanks for the info. I thought the enemies scaled but I wasn't sure if all of them did. I guess I will just fight it when I have the skills.

I beat that dragon with my rogue, Alistar as the tank, Wynne as the healer, and Shale was clobbering it aswell. My rogue is used dual wield weapons and did most of the damage, just be careful if you use a rogue, if you ****** off the dragon too much you will be tanking it. If you practice your management with Wynne as a healer, and using paulices, you can bring any party member to that battle and be successful! Do keep in mind, i fought the dragon on casual mode... and it was still a challenge to keep everyone alive.

Just went back to the mountaintop at level 18 and summoned the dragon. Playing on normal, and it was rather easy. My tank never went below 50% health.

I found most the dragon fights easy as long as you spaced your party out and, stacked all the fire resist you possibly could give to your melee.
