Hello fellow Dragon Agers:
I'm working with a L7 Rogue in the castle infiltration of Redcliffe Castle. I've entered through the secret tunnel in the basement. I've released the Blood Mage held there, and have proceeded onto the Main Floor of the castle. I have a full group - Allistair, Madrigan and Lilliana.
I've been trying, and failing, to make my way from the Main Floor entrance to the stairs to the second floor for some time now. Upon entering the Main Floor, I've been able to survive the first two rooms of undead, but the third room entered conains a yellow-level undead and a group of 4 henchmen that wipe my group out every time.
I'm looking for suggestions - tactics, group composition, etc. - to help me get through this one.
Any ideas?
-jason (aka Weromere)

Try to pull only a few mobs at a time. Walk slowly until you aggro one, then run back to your group. You have to use 'h' a lot to do this.
Spray cone of cold to freeze the mobs as they come through the door at your party. Take out one at a time.
I find the cold spells and dirty fighting and shield bash aare my best friends when it comes to dealing with multiple mobs.

It only gets harder past those. I had to die and reload several times before figuring out the right tactics.
I found I needed to use The big guy and my dog to tank, while blasting away with the mage, and my pc rogue would backstab. Focus on the toughest guy first, and the rest can be taken care of after that.
Good luck!

Like other tough groups, those can be pulled up to the door and fought in the bottleneck. Sometimes in hard fights like that it's better to kill the easier monsters first to reduce the incoming damage, or, if the "boss" has dangerous abilities, it can be better to have everyone attack the yellow/orange monster and lock it down from the start. Try both ways, but make sure everyone is attacking the same thing either way.

I didn't have much problem in Redcliff. My main character is a Dwarf Warrior Commoner (Shield/Sword setup), and i usually bring along Alistair (tank), Morrigan (damage with the one healing spell), and Sten (2 handed).
My problem area was mainly the room with the ghosty/wight guys (can't remember what they're called). It wasn't a real "problem" per se, but i did have to clear the skeletons in the hallways first and one of the rooms, because they tended to link up once i entered the chapel area.
The second problem area was the room full of the war hounds (Mabari?). There were just so many of them that it overwhelmed the party, so i had to pull one at a time, do the Mind Blast aoe to stun them, and then use the telekinetic force field to lock one of the mobs down. Of course, for all that trouble, nobody had lock picking and i didn't bring a rogue with me so...i couldn't get the loot from the chest ;p all for nothing!
Tactically placing your characters is the best practice you can do in the game from what i've seen (and i've only been about 10 hours total into it, between two characters).
I will give a tip though...and it's not so much a spoiler, as just a general tip so please don't take it that way...if you haven't gotten to this point yet, when you finally get to the main room of Redcliffe Castle, there is a cutscene there after you get close to one of the storyline folks and find out what's going on. Anyway, as soon as you enter that large room, you can also cut to the right to go into another area, and there are four suits of armor. As soon as you go to open a door in there, the four suits come alive, and (i have no idea where they came from) a crapload of skeletons show up. There is NO WAY i was able to beat that, even with some NPC help that i was able to bring forth. It's a tough fight...if i had been more prepared, it would have been ok i think but...lol. Just a warning.

Another tip, if you have a mage who can cast the basic healing spell...
is to set up two tactics, to heal whenever someone is below 25%, and when someone is below 75% in that order. It seems to me that that will help prioritize the healing. I had morrigan with me like this, and she only had the basic healing spell. If someone was low and i thought the heal wasn't going to get off in time, i'd pop a healing potion. The last two tactics she had on were to Mind Blast any cluster of mobs with 2 or more people, and to Drain Life whenever she got lower than 75% on health (so as not to use up the healing spell's cooldown when it can be better used on a tank).
