Don't see whats so hard to understand. Cerberus is an enemy of the Council. Makes sense they wouldn't be too happy about one of their agents working for them.

And the Council is pretty generous, offering to reinstate your Spectre status and allowing you to run around with out having to report in to them.

Working with Cerberus as a  means to an end  does not preclude Shepard from working for the Council.

They chose to invest Shepard with the power of a Spectre - they should respect that he will protect the Galaxy any way he sees fit. If that involves working with Cerberus, so be it. Why should they be mad?

They act all surprised that Shepard would do what he does when the whole point of the Spectres is to be able to act without the constraint of political or legal notions. Threatening him with treason is silly. What do they expect to be the result of zero accountability? They must have seen a situation like this coming.

The whole point of Spectres is that they undergo a rigorous screening process before even being considered as a potential candidate so that they can be trusted with this extreme power. To suddenly go back on all of Shepard's history and question his judgement is silly. He's a Spectre. He should answer to no one but is courteous enough to inform the Council of his doings.

Except Shepard does have to answer to someone. The Council. If they don't  like what Shepard is doing then they have the right to revoke the power they gave to him/her

That really doesn't do much.  As with the case of Saren he had far too many allies and Shepard more or less got lucky.  Shepard really, doesn't have to answer to anyoene.

I've played the Cerberus missions from ME1 and I have absolutely no tolerance or love for the group. Seeing things from a Sole Survivor's perspective also helps with that. F*ck 'em.

I honestly just wish you were allowed to go back and "smooth things over" if you took the paragon path in the finale.

That has to be reserved for very exceptional circumstances (like Saren's genocidal rampage). If they revoked every Spectre's status just because they didn't agree with their modus operandi then what is the point of having a Special Tactics and Reconnaissance branch with close to zero oversight? They are meant to be enagaging problems in unconventional ways that might be frowned upon by a law abiding society.

Shepard can't be the first Spectre to do something the Council frowns upon. Why do they make such a big deal out of it? That's the whole point of having Spectre power.

My comment was meant partially in jest.

However, let's think about this: Cerberus is an ex-black ops group that the Alliance would rather no one knows about. They've committed acts of terrorism against both humans and non-humans. They've been labeled a terrorist organization by both the Alliance and the Citadel Council. And their agenda is explicitly human supremacist in nature (Miranda and TIM say as much and if that weren't enough Ascension spells it out very clearly).

Saying the Council shouldn't have a problem with Shepard working with Cerberus is like saying the Council shouldn't have had a problem with Saren working with the geth. And don't bring up the Reapers, because we know the Council doesn't believe they exist. To the Council's eyes, it looks nearly identical: a spectre is working closely with known enemies of theirs for nebulous purposes. Of course they're going to be suspicious!

The mind-numbingly idiotic thing about the Council is not their reaction to Shepard's work with Cerberus but rather that they refuse to admit to the Reapers' existence. That's stupid. Not their concerns about a terrorist organization that's tortured and killed (at least) hundreds already.

I played the ME1 Cerberus missions and I will stay HEEL. I rather work with a group who gets **** done rather than talks about it.

Don't take it up the cheeks man it was a joke. Asside the point if Shepard doesn't follow the rules then he is rogue and will be gunned down by another Spectre (ME1 anyone?).
