A movie of Mass Effect would have to be on par with Avatar in terms of budget and quality of the effects to be any good

By Thor, no. Avatar was only eye candy.

True that, I should have clarified. Avatar money but you know, good.

I would only want to see a movie of Mass Effect if its a serious production and real backing. I would hate to see a Starship Troopers type of movie. It has to go beyond that level, even in the actors/actresses casting.

A movie would be great if done right. Since the chances of it actually being done right are slim, I'd say no, no movie please.

Agreed as well. We don't need a Uwe Boll (spelling?) game movie of Mass Effect. Give it to Peter Jackson (LoTR) or Ridley Scott (Blackhawk Down.

yah but I also agree it needs to be on par with Avatar in terms of eye-candy-ness.  But script wise, eh, itll still probably be butchered.  so there are few things against it.  Need of big budget for CGI, big budget for a large cast, and finding a script writer that holds true to nature of game, also movie has to find a way to condense to a 2-3 hour movie from MAss Effect 1's at least 10 hours of gameplay.

it can be done, just a few obstacles.  Posted Image

that's just will be go very wells, if they'll make tv-series. To describe the history of the first game (perhaps even using flashbacks) and continue it, using some episodes from the ME2 and ME3.
All this is just not fit into one movie. But if they'll decide to release sequels and threequels or even worse, prequels - they just gonna confuse us and gather big cash

That's correct I think... :)
yeah, it's a really big guys who can handle it. but this required a damn well-coordinated team. not just a couple of perfect directors

Which is exactly why I said they shouldn't earlier.  I've got better odds of kickin in the gates of Hell and taking over than Hollywood does of getting a movie about this right.  course, the other problem you face is if I think they got it right maybe most other fans don't and they're all about money and trying to make _everyone_ happy I think is virtually impossible, so making money on it on the scale they'd need to in order to justify the budget needed to even consider doing the story justice is also... highly improbable.

Hollywood and pretty much everyone else (to be fair) ruins plots based on games or books. Hollywood, especially with videogame plots, thinks the target audience is automatically 13 years old so they ignore the details and just toss in more explosions and choose some freakin' retard hack like Vin Diesel to play as Shepard. I hope Hollywood never approaches Bioware about a Mass Effect movie. It wouldn't end my world by any means, but I wouldn't see it and I'd be too embarassed to reccommend the game series to someone if some cheesy movie came out.

If Bioware released a movie with complete creative control, that would be fine. But why should they? They've already given us an interactive game where we get to make decisions about the plot, what our main characters look like and that's a heck lot better than a movie where you sit back and do nothing.

If there's a Mass Effect movie, I won't mind. But what I will not abide is an ME movie based on the actual trilogy. ME is a game about choice. It's the fun in making the hard choices, making your own character with his or her own personality, a Shepard who looks like whatever you want him/her to look like. If an actual movie is based on a game based on this player choice, that would be friggin' ridiculous. Ignoring the fact they would never be able to cast anyone correctly, as the fate of any movie based directly on a video-game's story, it just completely throws off that idea that BioWare has constantly marketed as 'YOUR Shepard, you make your own canon!' and make all the trouble BW has went through to make Shepard's gender, appearance, choices and history as ambiguous as possible null and void because it perpetrates the idea of a 'right Shepard' and that everyone outside of that not playing within the story's rules. That default Shepard or whoever they cast for him/her (probably Sam Worthington, who is becoming the Nolan North of cinema, except not as talented, even though I cannot comprehend why everyone is suddenly incredibly obsessed with him) stops being 'default' and starts being 'this is what's supposed to happen, you were SUPPOSED to do this'. It ruins that entire feeling and if some braindead producer thinks it's a good idea and greenlights following the ME trilogy story, be prepared for the largest wall bang in history.

There have been movies that just kill the source that their based on (comics, games, and the like). However if done by a good director and/or producer it can be great (LOTR). For all the reasons mentioned by others on this thread, I wouldn't want to see a movie based on the game trilogy, but related to the Mass Effect universe. There is alot of backstory about the citadel, races, and such to go on. They could base the story on some new unkown figure. They could even do one about the Asari and Krogan war. There are alot of possibilities. The real problem is if they'll do it right and not make it a sappy, cut-up, partially finished embarrasment of a movie.Posted Image

My brother got a GamePro (I think it was some game magazine) it said the producer who work on X-man and stuff like that is working on a few game movies, First is Lost Planet. And then he has plans to do Everquest, Uncharted, and Mass Effect. I will scan the part in the magazine later if you want to see it?

story itself - it is an epic movie which should consist of several parts. But who will be able to shoot it correctly?

It doesn't need to be about Shepard! Why not a cg movie about the First Contact War/ Krogan Rebellions/ Rachni Wars? They would not need to care about consequences because all these events happened before ME1.

Skip the movie and give me an MMO. Preferably one a lot like StarWars Galaxies. I'd go see a movie, but I doubt it would be any good.... but what if it were? DUN DUN DUUUUNNNNN.

Yeah, people aren't going to pay money to see that.

Anyways, I don't much care for what details of the story are canon or non-canon, as long as you're provided with adequate choices and consequences during the game. All of the arguments after KotOR came out about whether Revan was male or female were infuriatingly retarded. I don't particularly care if they make a Mass Effect movie with a man or woman as Shepard, or whether Shepard is Renegade or Paragon, as long as it's done well. The casting needs to be done properly, so this if they cast a woman as Shepard, it better be someone who can believably pull off a tough woman - this means NO ANGELINA JOLIE. I simply cannot buy a mousy, emaciated woman with no air of authority or power getting Action Girl roles like she does. It's really absurd.

Really, I see no reason why it can't be done. Novels have become great movies, comic books have become great movies, why can't video games? Mass Effect could make for an awesome sci-fi action movie like Terminator or Aliens if done right.

I don't think 'most' fans want to see a movie. Those are just a few morons in these forums that do.
