In ME1 Anderson said it was Saren blowing up the plant that stopped him becoming a spector.

However in Revalation Anderson was being strangled to death by Skarr and only escaped because the explosion knocked him unbalenced.

Saren's "rescue" of Anderson was a fortunate by-product of the refinery explosion.

Saren blew up the refinery to cover up his murder of Dr. Quian and his theft ot Dr. Quian's research on Sovereign.

And probably also to make Anderson look bad, in case Anderson survived :)

Anderson would probably never been in that situation if Saren told him he wasn't going to blow up the plant. Remember Anderson rushed into the refinery to save Kahlee before it blew up. If Saren wasnt going to blow it up, who knows maybe Saren and Anderson could have worked together and planned something more elaborate to save Kahlee. Saren had no intention of saving her.

My way of looking at it is that Saren almost got Anderson killed! not the other way around.

It is hard to say if Anderson would have been killed by Skarr in the book or not. He could have been saved by one of the other two humans or somehow gotten away himself.

no Saren never told Anderson he wanted to blow the place up. he said he got 30 minutes to go first because Saren would go in shooting, and they would execute Kahlee as soon as they heard gunfire.
