 Hi,

This is my first time using this forum, so i'll try to be as clear as possible.

I've recently installed dragon age origins and installed the latest patch.
Everything wen't fine untill i started playing. There is a really weird lag in my game.
Like if they talk in conversations they seem to stutter (just like Jimmy Volmer in Southpark)
Unfortunatly this isn't the only bug I am experiencing, when I am in battle with several monsters
I try to hit them, but there is such a big delay in the hit and the actual damage, it really makes the game terrible to play. I'ts like, if i do shield bash it takes around 3-5 seconds for the character to fall down.... So if I do a normal hit with my sword, it takes like 3 - 5 seconds to show the damage and hit the mob.

So my questions is; anyone else experiencing this weird lag? and how can i fix this?

Hope to hear from anyone soon!

There is literally almost nothing that is truly a "standard" between various branded PCs, making the game developers' jobs very difficult, and requiring that warning labels be attached to game boxes for any games with serious requirements.  Without data, there can be no diagnosis.

The issues are caused by the latest patch. The devs have refused to address them for months and will probably never will. As long as they remain bonded to that parasite EA, they will continue to prioritize creating garbage over having to do anything that's actually useful to their fans as long as it fetches a buck from the multitudes of blind sheep who continue to support their greed.

If your hardware isn't at the RECOMMENDED LEVEL, you certainly may experience a variety of problems caused by weak, outdated, and slow pc system environmental factors, which is why you were referred to the thread talking about the missing data you left out of your report.

You should ignore the pessemists on the forums such as that negative response above, since a majority of game players whose hardware is up to the mark have not had serious problems (I have not).  Some few people have problems whether their hardware is current and passes the requirements or not, and there isn't always a lot of rhyme or reason to that, other than (IMO) a higher percentage of them have nVIDIA video cards in their PCs.

Recommended Specifications
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz Processor or equivalent
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual-Core 2.7 GHz or greater
RAM: 2 GB (XP) or 3 GB (Windows Vista/Windows 7)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater
(no other Mfgr accepted for video)
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

I've seen your replies in most of the threads concerning this problem, Gorath, and all you seem to do is criticize how people don't state their specs and argue semantics about the word "lag". Some help, really.

I have just started having this lag problem with DA:O after installing awakening. It is just as it has been described - A character performs the assigned order (that is, the animation of casting, hitting, whatever, plays) but the actual effect (spell blast, enemy taking damage) happens some 5-10 seconds later. This sort of behaviour makes the game into an unplayable randomness.

I noticed this mainly during the battle of Redcliffe and while being attacked by thugs in Denerim - both rather busy scenes and both after about 3 hours of playing the game nonstop.

This is my second playthrough of DA:O, the first one was without Awakening installed, sometime around Christmas, and without any patch (certainly not 1.02 or 1.03). Back then it ran fine on full details and everything, not a single stutter or lag - though I point out that this "lag" I'm talking about is not a hardware performance issue, as the FPS is stable, but it takes forever for my party to perform orders, while the baddies have no problem atttacking.

And yes, I do meet recommended specs (else I wouldn't have been able to run it full detail without so much as a hint of a problem the first time, right?):

Intel Core2 Duo P8600 (2 cores at 2,26 GHz each)

4 GB RAM (though only 3 accesible because of 32bit Win XP)

nVidia 9600M GT with 512MB GDDR3

It's a year-old gaming laptop from MSI, GX620.

I would agree with the conclusion that it's a patch 1.03 thing, since that also installed along with Awakening, but I don't feel like reinstalling the game just to test that theory. I'll just wait and hope for a new patch.

I just finished Awakening and I had trouble with lag during big boss battles or during the fights in Virgil's Keep. I wouldn't say it was unplayable, but it was occasionally bewildering to repeated click on a healing potion and not see healing effects until 5-10 seconds later.

I recall fighting an armored ogre in Virgil's Keep with two characters dead, and two characters heavily damaged (a mage and a rogue) while the ogre had about 1/4 of its hit points. I was frustrated that my poulstices, duelist combat swings, and CoC were not happening, and i was sure that I would die and need to reload ...

... and then, in an instant, all my poulstices, duelist talents, and CoC spell took effect and the ogre was dead .... weird.

Wow, thanks for all these replies!

I've checked out my computer, and I know my computer is a bit out of date. I also have windows 32bit so he can't read my 4 gb ram as well... but the worst thing is I don't have a duel or quad core so that might be a big problem too... My motherboard is a bit out dated as well, So i have 2 things that are quite out dated.

I'm going to buy new computer parts in like a month or so, and than I will try dragon age again. However you guys are only talking about the 5-10 seconds lag on hit, but I also have a big sound bug.. In every cutscene they seem to stutter like hell.. and you hear like weird scratching sounds..

Thanks for all the help so far, but I think my computer is just out of date.. so that's the biggest problem right now :(

I experienced some very strange lags in the game aswell.  From one moment to an other the hole game began twiching around. Though a reload fixed it, i'm curious about other people having seen some similar issues. Specs shouldn't be a problem, though i suspect 7 of causing some trouble, if this isn't a general bug. (Neither insalled awakening nor updated to 1.03)

Windows 7 Prof 64bit
intel i5 750
4gb-ram (kingston-value-1333)
radeon 4890 1gb (oc-ed)
(newest video and audio drivers installed)

I've always experienced this lag in the largest battles, but curiously, after recently buying and installing an extra half a megabyte of memory, the lag got WORSE.

Now I'm getting lag even on smaller battles, and in large battles it's utterly ridiculous. It does seem like it's an issue on the software side. I might try to re-install, and this this time forgo the 1.03 patch for the earlier one.

Or I might just put the game aside for now... I've been playing it quite a bit, and think I'm getting near the point when I'll be bored with it anyway. Still, I'm waiting for the next patch. Any news on it's progress?

I've had these "lag"-issues with both the "basic" game (pre 1.03) and with the newest versions, so claiming it's a 1.03 patch-issue doesn't really make any sense.

And by lag I mean the delayed-order problems where i might cast a cone of cold on a cluster of mobs and nothing happens, and the 5 secs later when mobs have moved, and some allies might have moved into the area the cone suddenly fires freezing the wrong targets. While it might not make the game unplayable it makes every big fight a long, tedious and boring affair.

And the final fight is just a waste of time... Impossible to play and enjoy.

Please avoid disinterring such long-dead stuff, even if it's the only thing the local bad excuse for a search will bring up. All you have to do is give Google or Yahoo a SITE: directive and they work beautifully. And if you actually want to do anything other than to just complain, do inlude a full problem report.
