- Shiannai lives and can become the Bann? (how does that work?)

If you ask that your people be treated fairly for once they will offer to make you Bann of the Alienage and you can accept, say someone else should do it, or suggest Shianni.

And I don't think its too western to not be happy about the prospect of an arranged marriage. Apparently Soris has been talking about running off since before he even met the girl and only changed his mind after seeing you step up to save him and try to save everyone else but claiming sole culpability for the massacre.

I don't remember what I did on my 1st CEF, but it was my 1st character ever and pretty much a throw-away. My 2nd and much more canon CEF was ambivalent about getting married, until she told Nelaros that she had been nervous until she saw him. His response is heart-melting. Her father describing him as a master smith gave her hope that he would not object to her swordplay habit. Later on when Soris tells her that it was Nelaros who knocked heads together and organized the rescue, that sealed it. She wore his ring throughout the game until Zevran came along and lifted the fog.

Is the CEF the only origin when you save everyone?

You don't save everyone.  Posted Image  Your family is still fairly intact, but the alienage underwent a purge because of what happened to you.  You see what became of the orphanage and that is so wrenching, especially since you have that adorable bit in the origin where you talk to the children about there being elven heroes.  Soris also ends up ok, but he lost his wife and has spent the entire game either being blamed for the massacre or in prison.  Basically, the gamble of giving yourself up for Vaughn's murder backfires.  I'm not sure how my CEF picked up the pieces after all that.

the ONLY consolation after all that is that with a Bann, in addition to an elven hero, the Fereldens might start to recognize the injustice that elves endure. I think most humans are not very nice to elves, but I also don't think the majority of them would approve if they realized exactly what was going on in there. Even Anora, who makes it a point to try and stick her nose in everything, didn't know.

I have played the CE bride twice; once wanting the marriage, and the other apprhensive of the arrangement. But both wanted blood for the events that followed, and both kept the ring.

I've played it several ways. My CEM was all happy to have a new bride. At the end she was really sweet to him about rescuing her and the others and being brave (he took the blame for it all).

My first CEF was reluctant till she met Nelaros then was gungho when she saw he was handsome AND nice to her. (I figured it was just pre wedding jitters that made her that way). My second CEF I tried to be as big a b*tch to the poor shmoe as I could and he STILL came in and died for her. I felt so miserable that I couldn't change that I went back and made her be nice to him.

I found the one that had the most impact for me was the one I recently played where she really wanted to be grown up and married and thought he was a dreamboat. (I love that line about spending every day making you happy).

I play that origin a lot but the ending depressed me so I usually never make it past Ostagar on me CE's.

Mine didn't want to get married - she preferred the ladies (and ended up with Leli). But she thought Nelaros was a decent chap and regretted what happened to him.

My CEF didn't, not at all, and was quite vocal about it. She thought Nelaros was nice and mourned the death of a good man- and she kept her wedding dress and ring- but he didn't really fit her personality all that much and she's very much a person who wants her freedom.

My current CEF wanted to get married. So was very, very distraught by what happened. She will wear Nelaros's wedding ring for the whole game, until she gets Zevran's earring, at which point she will feel that it'd time to let Nelaros go. Kind of excited for this playthrough b/c she's remarkably naive and romantic for growing up in an Alienage, which will cause Zevran no small amount of consternation.

Also, I love the line you get from Soris when he shows up to rescue you, about how Nelaros is the one who demanded that something be done to resuce you.

PC: "Nelaros is here?"
Soris: "Yes, he's the reason we're here. He lost it on those who wanted to "hope for the best". I... didn't know what to do."

I love his dalogue in the origin when he says "Are you nervous?"  He's very sweet if you respond "what if he doesn't like me?"

It is so sad in the return when Soris is obviously resentful of you.  Posted Image

Edit:  This is the one origin I just can't imagine playing as a male PC.

I like the male one. Different, but still good. Has probably the creepiest line in the whole game. >.>

It is. :( Does that part not ever change? Will he always give you that "must be so great to win all the time" line no matter what you do? It's really heartbreaking to return to him like that.

My City elf doesn´t like the arranged marriage business, but at least Nelaros doesn´t seem too bad.

And when he dies rescuing her she knows he would have been a good husband, but then it is too late, unfortunately.

CEM - You come in and they kill a woman instead of Nelaros.

Guard Captain:  "Well, that's one less elf breeder in the world."
Guard 1:  "A shame, though.  Nice body on that one."
Guard 2:  "She's still warm.  How picky are you, anyway?"

This line is one of the "Thanks, I´ll enjoy killing you even more now!" lines.

Is that only if you play a male CE? I didn't get that on my CEF and only played a CEM for the Origin.

The origin takes so little time to play that I would recommend it.  It was very interesting seeing the range of responses the males get.  You can be all awesome when trying to save your girl or you can be a total p*ssy, which I find hilarious.

It's his stock line after you complete the return to the alienage, and as far as I can tell, he says nothing else to you again.  Posted Image

So I'm happy to imagine him later on with his shem wife and passel of kids.  More power to him.

Yeah I played as a CEM named Dario (named after Dario from Chrono Cross.. lol).

I didn't actually leave with Duncan since I had no interest in going farther, but I did like it. Your betrothed survives in this one, but it was just as sad in some ways. When you go home and see her, you can tell she's really happy you saved her, but also very sad that you two are going to miss out on what could have been. she's happy for you joining the Grey Wardens though. Sweet woman.

So was my non-bitter Soris a bug?

I think the bitter Sorius IS a bug. I let him take the blame with me ONCE, and that bitterness at the end of the game makes a lot more sense like that..

So if you ran into Soris after Unrest in the Alienage and he WASN'T acting bitter.. well that's news to me.

Probably. What did he say in yours? Looking at the toolset only two lines pop up; a bitter one for the CE origin, and a generic grateful one for anything else.
