Hi there. I am having a lot of trouble getting the Dragon Age Toolset to work -- i keep getting the same error message : "Unable to connect to the Database"
I've tried using the Wiki to rectify this problem but NOTHING i do seems to work.
All i want to do is use the Toolset to create a simple mod... is that too much to ask?????????????
I have never had this problem with any of Bioware's previous Toolsets [NWN etc ... i know that NWN 2 and The Witcher were created by different software company's but they all use a variation of Bioware's original Aurora Toolset...... WHY oh why can i not use the toolset for Dragon Age??????? Is it my new PC that's the problem? My old PC had Windows XP - my new PC has Vista... is that the problem?? or is it me that's the problem? Have i made a mistake somewhere? I don't think so, i have a very good understanding of computers and how to use them... but i'm willing to admit i might have made a mistake.
Could someone help me please? I'd really appreciate it. Thank You.
All the best
Take care
AJ

neither witcher or NWN2 is using the aurora toolset, there is a few component that are similar such as the compiler but saying that they are using the same toolset isn't even vaguely true.

Yes Vista is junk but i think there is people running the toolset on it. (I have it running on both XP and Win7)

there is many sources for the Unable to connect to the database.

such as:

No database file (the database files wasn't installed correctly and you need to use the wiki instructions to restore it) check your Program files (x86)/DAODB/Data folder if it's empty you got this issue.

MS SQL didn't install correctly. (check to see if you can run a MS SQL server)

BWDATOOLSET SQL service isn't running. (check your services and make sure it runs)

MS SQL admin right isn't configures correctly, make sure BWDATOOLSET has admin right for the database.

The Witcher does indeed use a (heavily) modified version of the Aurora engine. That means nothing though as DA runs on the Eclipse engine. The two are completely unrelated, beyond some ongoing Bioware file format conventions.

i've tried everything everyone has suggested .. beyond using another Opersting System [my old PC is broke, i'm trying to fix it, but it doesn't seem to want to work] anyhoo - what i'm looking for is a solution to my current problem... which in my opinion should never happen ... all i want to do is make a nice simple mod for Dragon Age.. Again i ask: is that too much to ask for????????????????????

there's also a registry fix required sometimes - I had to do it - I'll poke around and see if I can find it, but that was a while ago....

UPDATE - this is the page that got me going...

The game is running on aurora, the toolset does not. they are diffrent software. There is rarely a need for a toolset to be engine specific, so they are often rewritten to fit each and every games requirement. there isn't a "engine" in most toolsets just a collection of utilities that is defined for a specific small task.

they doesn't even allways have the same renderer.

it's mysql related. if mysql isn't working correctly with vista then blame m$ for that. what's the problem with creating another partition an use a different os for testing purposes? in addition you got an old pc and xp - download sp3 and you're ready. or download a trial version of win7. to sit here crying a river won't help you...
