Is the warrior the weakest class overall?

So I'm playing my third playthrough now. My first playthrough was with a 2-h dwarven warrior, my second with an elven mage, and now I'm playing a human rogue. The mage was very powerful, and made many encounters that my fighter found very tough pretty easy. And the rogue kicks butt, wielding two daggers, and dealing out damage at a very rapid rate.

It may be that I was just inexperienced with the game, and that now I would find a warrior character stronger than I did on my first playthough, but I wonder.... can a warrior build ever match a good rogue build in survivability and damage output? I had fun with my warrior, and found the level of challenge on normal perfect for the first runthrough with a warrior, but is there any practical reason why you'd want a warrior PC over a rogue?

Ironic that im reverse, I think rogues are weaker....early game anyways..once they get their stats up and access to critical skills then id agree warriors are weaker, I mainly take warr pc to aggro tank while my support take them down.

I usually use 2 tanks 2 mages or 2 tanks healer archer or rogue.

Yes, a warrior can be a good tank, but I think that the game provides you with the only tank you really need - Shale. If you build Shale up right, and set up his tactics to use the "stone heart" line of tallents exclusively, he makes an awesome aggro tank. I find that I really don't need a second tank with Shale around.

I really think that the survivability of the rogue even early on in the game is quite high; a rogue is not that much weaker than a warrior even in the early phase, and I think a rogue passes a warrior pretty fast in effectiveness.

With Awakening, the 2H warrior becomes very, very great. You can deal awesome damage in areas of effect and finish any fight very quickly. But well, in Awakening, everything becomes a bit overpowered IMO

I'm running a tank having completed game with rogue and gone fair distance with mage.

I hate to say it but I think it's down to playstyle. Warrior has been good for holding his own in the front lines with good armour, shield skills and some damage dealing abilities.

It's the 'run and gun' class so to speak.

Warriors are not weaker, but do seem to be less flexible tactically. I mean, the AI can run these front liners fine while the Mages and Rogues seem to get more Player Control time.

Not weaker, but less fun imo.

It's totally a playstyle thing, and partly, a know-how thing. If you make a warrior with all the jobs already unlocked and knowing everything because you're running through the third time, and you have oodles of gold, then of course it's going to be easy.

Personally, I play my warriors toe-to-toe and build for survival. High DEX, heavy armor, and so forth. I like it. It is fun. Cast-iron bricks don't need tactics.

Mages are the strongest class - no doubt about that. But Warriors are a lot stronger then you think. Rogues can dish out great single target dmg, but they have to spend time moving into position. Two or three seconds of doing 0 dmg can really mess up your DPS numbers. Plus the two strongest warrior classes - Two hand and Dual Weld have great AOE attacks. You can pump out a lot of dmg. Plus, massive and heavy armor is a godsend when you get grabbed or overwhelmed. Dead characters do no dmg!

I think it depends. I, personally, don't care for playing as a warrior class, but I'm stuck on mages so that's a given. I do enjoy sword and boarding an arcane warrior, though. However, I couldn't function without one in my party, given my playstyle. My tank, Alistair, is quite useful and occasionally I switch over to his character to take command, but I rarely need since he's built to take care of himself.

Warriors are good for getting other characters out of sticky situations, like being surrounded by enemies or getting grabbed by an ogre. I find them to be more essential to the game than rogues are- I've crippled myself in game by dismissing Leliana and killing Zevran and still found it immensely enjoyable.

^^ The game becomes a LOT more enjoyable once you stop trying to "tank". At least in my opinion. Tanking is boring and exploiting some shody AI. Much funner to have everyone in the party dishing out dmg! Adds to the excitment when you mage gets aggro. At least for 2 seconds before you unleash Glyph of Repulsion and then Cold of Cold! Ahh, that is why I have sworn off mages - just tooo strong.

I don't really get why you would go for the dual weilding option if you're playing a warrior? Wouldn't a rogue perform better? I quite like having a sword and shield warrior in my team, but so far haven't been a fan of 2 handed.

A well built 2h warrior is an unstoppable juggernaut. On every subsequent playthrough after my 2h warrior, I found myself wishing I had indomitable. DW warrior is inferior to a rogue due to less strategic options. The concept of a tank in this game is rather outmoded, and as such I don't consider sword and shield warriors to be worth the effort at all. DW and 2h warriors can taunt at the start of the fight to draw fire off clothies, and that is really all that is needed.

Dual wielding warriors tend to use more the "activated" talents than the rogues.

If you use threaten/taunt in berserk mode then whirlwind and dual weapon sweep, you will be able to do a lot of damages.

But it's just a matter of taste.

Warriors are not weaker than rogues, they just are more balanced : less weaknesses but also less advantages.

They can do a lot of damages constantly without having to disable the enemy or backstabbing it.

This is a more frontal aspect in the battle : warriors are the infantry when rogues are the cavalry. Rogues are more a support unit by essence, that will benefit from having a warrior taking the attention of the ennemy.

A well built Dual Wield Warrior is a powerful monster on the battlefield, With the proper gear and stats you can solo the game without any problems.

I think it's down to personal preference and how you spec your characters. I have yet to play a warrior, however this isn't because I think warriors are weaker than the other classes I just like the fighting style of the classes (especially the rogue). A character is only as good as you build them.

Absolutely!  An "all guns blazing" party makes for intense fights.

@Lucav5 - There is a recent thread here that more or less arrived at the conclusion that a max-strength S&S warrior could do about the same damage as a two-hander, surprisingly.

I think there all balanace imo.

Warrior gets the coolest/best armor strongest gear and has high endurances and if you got dicent armor you can have a good dragon slayer. All classes but archer for a warrior are very effective i prefer a good sword/sheild or a 2hander myself. I dont think there the weakest by any means i say they all have there perks that make them all equal.

Well, you played a 2H Warrior which is the weakest of the fighting forms in the beginning. In later stages with Indomitable and Destroyer, the 2H Warrior becomes a killer, but it takes a while to get there. A DW or S&S Warrior is better throughout the game. It also depends on which specs you've chosen.

For my DW and S&S Warriors, I've always taken Berserker/Templar. The Berserker gives you that extra damage whereas the Templar gives you the Holy Smite to stun mages at range.

They're just fine. Different from rogues, but still powerful, and not having to spend time on positioning helps dps a ton. Mages, of course, are by far and away the most powerful class (leaving out Awakening, where everyone becomes stupidly powerful)

Dual Wield Warrior - Overpowered. Stopped playing it because it was too easy.

Sword and Shield - never tried as main PC, but I think it´s useful on companion and would be quite strong when played correctly

Twohanded - Strong earlygame, but the damage increase is low compared to the other warrior types, so they get weaker later on. Indomitable is great, though - in fights against lots of archers your rogue might well be stunned for half of the time while the Twohanded warrior kills everything.

Personally, I use the better 2handed mod, and with this it is one of the most powerful classes.

Awakenings: Everything is OP, but warrior more so than others. i´ve seen a video of a spirit warrior archer hitting for 700 damage with each - non-critical! - hit, so yea....

I played a sword and shield'd warrior through and loved it. Left the massive damage to the mages and split the baddies between the main tank. Worked really well actually, I don't remember dying or even coming close to. The damage wasn't too awful either killing most normal creatures with a couple of hits.

I also loved my main character being the one to jump on the dragon's head. <3

I DISLIKE THOSE SPECIAL ANIMATIONS. THEY HAPPEN WAY TOO OFTEN ON THE OGRES. IT SHOULD ONLY HAPPEN WITH BOSSES

I usually play DW Warriors and Rogues and was surprised to see the damage jump up.  It's nice to have two S&S characters.  When grabbed by an ogre, there's someone who can do a Shield Bash to drop the grabbed character.  We saved each other's bacon more than once.  With Shield Wall, we can pretty much ignore arrows from all angles.

I think templar/reaver warriors are pretty bad ass, I'm gonna get right back to mine after I smash up Awakenings with my mage. If you can shut down magic in this game you can go far. Gaxxkang and templars are my mages worst and most lethal enemies for the same reason, they can dispell your sustained mage spells/abilities gimping you and leading to your death if you're unlucky!

You want to be like Gaxxkang/charmed templars right!? RIGHT! B)
