From what I understand, WoW murdered Warcraft's storyline. We wouldn't want that to happen to the ME universe, now, would we?

If anything it enhanced it.....but thats because the player is essentially an extra in a storyline, and blizz plays out the story like a book, with the player as an more of an observer. (epic characters doing ****,player watching it happen)The issue is that most people get so caught up in e-penis enhancement they dont have time to stop and appreciate the storyline. A perfect example of this was an old world raid, the original naxxaramas, the players cleared it, killed a big villian/character, then went on their way. Later explained who did this, was a now semi major character with the assistance of a group of heroes (the players) The storyline focuses on the named guy, not the player.

Blizz was able to go more indepth with the storyline, at the cost of it not
being about the player, but I digress.

ME is a player centered game, it heavily focuses on the players interaction, WoW was based on an RTS series...and later books, LOTR online was based on books, various star wars mmos were based on movies/books Warhammer online was a RTS and tabletop game, meaning the player didnt have any control over the storyline, or even felt like they could effect the story line. So basically, ME is not a storyline/setting/style that is MMO suitable. For an example, lets imagine they made a ME MMO

WoW---never really focused on the players interactions with story before in the
RTS...so noone really minded when they were given the role of a meaningless
hero.
ME---Games before hand centered heavily on the
player and their interactions with the story, so when they are given the roll
of meaningless space hero, they feel like the series has gone into a bad turn.

Another way to look at it.

Warcraft--A novel, fully written, ready for your reading enjoyment.
Mass Effect--Choose your own adventure book---set storyline, but with bendable
turns and twists.

One is mmo suitable, the other isnt. Both are good imo, I adore warcraft
storyline, and I love mass effects, but both are good they way they are.

I see some problems with this,

1: What path did Shepard follow to save the universe?

2: Is this before or after Shepard?

3: The Galaxy is only so big, eventually it would fill up.

4: Who would own Earth, The Cidadel, The migrent Fleet?

5: If you could land, lag would be redicules and load times would be long.

6: Graphics would have to be Sub-Par.

7: TOR is already in effect.

Other-wise I wouldn't mind it as long as you could be any speices in the Galaxy, and Geth.

I think this would be pretty ****ing sweet if it was done correctly. Being able to play as one of the main races in mass effect (Turian, Asari, Human, Salarian) would be amazing. Getting a ship and having ship battles would be really cool too. Even the conversation system would still work in an MMO, a player gets paragon points / renegade for how they responde to the NPCs. With these points they can gain the alliance of other factions or get special weapons/armors and what not.

They could do all this in ME4.  They've already stated that there'll be other games in ME and that it won't involve Shep.

Anyway, I think this would be pretty cool. I don't know if there is a topic about this or not, but I don't really care either. What are your opinions?

I think your an **** and I really don't care.

No because

1. They'll have to force everyone to play as humans and people are going to **** about it.

2. If they make it available where you can be an alien, you're going to see drell and female salarians and Krogan all over the place. They can make those restricted or not available, but then people are going to **** about it.

If they made one Id play it. Bioware is smart enough to figure out how to make a great mmo and not "ruin" ME. An MMO instantly ruining ME makes no sense. What company are you thinking about as we discuss Bioware titles?! Some people just fear things they dont understand or something new.

I've found that MMOs based on single player games, tend to kill the single player game, something I object to in this case since ME is one of a dying breed anyway (the CRPG).

Second and more importantly, ME has always been a universe where the choices of the PC mattered. IIRC, that's the reason the Shepard used for promotional purposes is called the iconic Shepard rather than cannon. You can't do that with an MMO.

Grunt: We will push MMOs over the edge of the galaxy, then step on their fingers one by one until they fall off.

In other words: No, there are too much MMOs polluting the games business already.

Can't wait to decapitate Saren five times only for him to come back yet again, since having your head chopped off is just a setback.

God WoW wrecked Warcraft's story...
