1. Search
2. Reply to an old thread
3. Get it locked for "necroing".

Yeah, can't wait to walk around the citadel and see people with names like AsariBanger, TurdMongler and Legóóláás...

Just look how original all the forum nicks are.

On the other hand this isn't an RPG, this is a forum. While MMO:s sound great, they are impossible to play without breaking imerssion. This is mainly due to idotic names, non-unique missions (ie. everyone has killed the big uber dragon) and out of character conversations. MMO:s don't work

True. Though I can't say I've been immersed in any CRPG anyway. You aren't really roleplaying when your choices and the plot are already predetermined. At least in MMOs you CAN roleplay.

Odd, I thought immersion doesn't have much to do with how much freedom you have. You can be immersed in linear single player FPS games if the story is interesting.

Guess that would depend on what definition of immersion you are using. You can be immersed into a picture for that matter. I guess you meant narrative immersion.

I meant being immersed in the game, or feeling that you're "part of it" rather than just clicking your mouse and tapping your keyboard. That can be achieved by a good story, yes. Like reading a book.

But in a MMO there is neither story nor roleplay. There is not even good gameplay.

MMO is practically a bunch of copy-paste enemies in copy-paste levels crowded by seeminggly mindless player avatars who could as well be bots, according to how much they do.

What do you think why free MMOs are totally on the same level as WoW, or even better, but no free game comes close to the likes of Mass Effect or DAO?

Unfortunately, though, MMOs are much better from a capitalist point of view. They require much less work than a single player game AND allow to charge much more due to monthly fees etc...

I just... No. No more MMO's please. At least for me, I think I'm done with them. I played UO for years then WoW. So done with it.

Care to explain? Many of them even have roleplaying servers with stricter naming conventions.

They are not even close. There's a reason why even so many pay 2 play MMOs fail compared to WoW.

Pretty funny though when you consider that e.g. WoW gets "free" content updates that are much, much larger than single player DLCs which you usually have to pay for anyway.

Maybe it´s different once you´re strongly involved with the few people who care for roleplaying.
I can´t stand being in a MMO for more than 10 minutes - afterwards the levelgrinding bores me, the other players get on my nerve and the lousy gameplay makes me sick.

Of course they fail and suck like hell. But so does WoW. I should´nt have said "better than WoW" though. I should have said "not bad enough to be worse than WoW".

Like the flying horse for 25$ tecently?

And even if there were free DLCs, the monthly fee is more than you pay for DLC in SP-games.

@ OP, The only I would be for it 100% is if it was done in a totally different decade either before or after the events of the trilogy and If it was outside of the trilogy (unlike TOR). So I am with you 100% and think it would be EPIC as I love MMOs personally. I am with you though as long as the above mentioned criteria is considered.

Only thing that would be funny is to play as Elcor and Hanar. Love them talking, would be funny one way if you could ever play as them :D.

Though it makes sense when you consider that single player games don't need huge server farms to run them.

The whole MMO genre needs a shakeup badly.

I used to feel the same the same way, though that Old Republic MMO looks good. I think I'll give it a try, but only because it's Bioware.

But I should really stay on point huh... To the OP, no I don't think its something that will happen anytime soon, if ever, because Bioware already has a huge MMO in the works. I can't see them taking on another one.

I personally, loathe MMO communities

What specifically don't you like about them?

Everyone seems to be comparing MMOs to WoW. I really think that is the worst possible example to give, ya it is the most popular one on the market, but it is not the same kind of game at all. If anything, I think Guild Wars would be a better example of what a Mass Effect MMO would be like. Guild Wars has great story telling and lots of immersion. The way the naming system works in the game restricts player names being Shepard8328 or something equally lame.

Anyway, back on topic, i'm very curious as to how BioWare will handle an MMO. TOR looks pretty cool so far.

Oh yeah, I'm sold on TOR, I'm trying to get preselected for the beta now...

Indead you are. We get a great game and bioware gets a lot of money so they can use that money to keep making great games. It's a win win.

Exactly, As long as BioWare keeps making great games, I will prefer to give them my money rather than any other company.
