You may need to reboot the PC itself, if Dx9 is unstable in any manner (yes, Dx9, not Dx10, not Dx11).

As you have already been reminded, please don't post a report like yours, without including the diagnostic data.

Ok I am running DX 11 but i installed the one thats on the cd...

Do i remove whole DX ? or how do i get both 9 and 11 ? I think some other games use 11, like modern warfare 2.

Any tips?

Old & new work together without any hitches that I know of, but the game is Dx9, and needs things from that version that for whatever reason  just aren't included in the newer Direct3D APIs.  You still should get into the practice of  including the game's environment as a natural aspect of requesting assistance.

I can only recommend reinstalling DX9 or 11 again, or updating your graphics drivers if not already done. If that doesnt work you'll have to wait for Gorath or someone else to help.

Try typing dxdiag and go to display and see if D3D is enabled.

I have to agree about it being annoying. I just purchased the game about six hours before writing this. Installed, the launcher pops up. I hit play. It begins to load and stops working. I already had DX 10 on my computer, but still installed the one the came with the game. I updated my graphic drivers, restarted the computer each time I did anything. The configuration is still in its basic form. Now, six hours later, I still haven't started playing ME2.

My configuration summary is

Processsor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

Clock Speed: 2390 MHz Physical Memory: 3 GB

Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT VRAM 256 MB

Driver Version 197.45

Sound Adapter: Realtek HDMI Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Driver Version: 6.0.1.5910

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 (Mar2009) or later

Completely remove your video drivers and then reinstall after reboot. See if that helps.

Here I am necroing old threads... (can't sleep) :P
Got it sorted out yet or?
Did you install the game and run dx redists as administrator? Or just let the installer install direct-x when it gets to that part.

Perhaps the game simply needs D3D9 Overlay support.

"Me, too" doesn't work when you enter a User to User forum. The OP is long gone, so to whom do you think you are writing now? Bioware is hardly here, answering tech just isn't what they do here, just as described at the top with all the various pinned message threads.

I jusy got mass effect 2 and am trying to install it on a new laptop, a gateway and it is not running. Looking at the requirements and what is loaded on my laptop, the only difference is Directx 10 is on the laptop and and ME2 is 9.0c. I think this is my problem, but I cant find a way to uninstall 10 and find a place to install 9.0c from. can you help?

The last previous comment was "unaswerable".  Basically, so is yours.  You didn't make a standard problem report, as per Chris Priestley.

The URL at the end, above, was for the report description.  Four graphics sofwares, actually are all in play.  Drivers, PhysX, Direct3D, and the game itself.  Direct3D is automatically the Dx10 version if the OS is Vista, but the game itself has to have Dx9, and it will install that all by itself, unless you make it stop doing so (you need BOTH Dx10 and Dx9 for Vista plus Mass Effect).

The "unsupported" message likely means your laptop only has a crappy Intel Graphics Media Accelerator integrated graphics chip, and thus just can't play Mass Effect 2 at all.

You can confirm this by running the program dxdiag.exe and going to the "display" tab.
