There is no BEST class, every class thrives in certain situations and all classes are viable on insanity

Just thought i'd throw that out there. Everyday tons of 'Which class is best on insanity?" type threads pop up and flame wars often ensue over people defending their favorite class. I've played the majority of the game with every single class on insanity and never did I get to a spot where I was like "This class sucks, it cant handle the higher difficulties." Every single class has situations where they thrive and are extremely efficent. With some classes you need to bring certain squadmates to help you out. For instance, on my Adept playthoughs, I always brought squadmates that are good at defense stripping, because once enemies are down to health, enemies are just asking to be destroyed through warp explosions and such. It's all a matter of preference. I like all of the classes except for the Vanguard actually. And before someone says it, I played extremely aggresively and didnt die much mainly due to my knowledge of the various maps and battles. Unlike most, I just dont find charge fun. Every single class in this game can get through insanity if the player knows what they're doing. It all depends on your playstyle and personal preference.

/rant

Good day too all, I'm off to start another adept playthough, or soldier lol. I keep going back and forth.  Image IPB

I wish you luck with that. Adept sucks--it can't handle the higher difficulties.

If you're going to troll, try and do a better job at it. Ok?

You do have a point; everything is situation based. I prefer soldiers or sentinels just because that's my playing style: mostly shooting with the occasional tech or bonus biotic attack.

u have a point and i agree that every class is great and balanced for different situations. but everyone got they're own opinion and favorite class. my opinion:

(.)insanity(.)
vanguard - one of my fav classes - high learning curve (with multiple possible deaths - random encounters, fail charge, charge bug..ecc).
adept - fun but not always 'useful' on insanity(look at Talis loyalty mission-personally i had a very hard time dealing with all those geths at lvl 30 on Alarei).
soldier - easiest class.
infiltrator - easiest class right after the soldier.
sentinel - one of my fav classes - very versatile - can deal with any type of enemies without the help of ure squad (if u pick the shotgun u got a tank ready for close combat half adept half engineer).
engineer - i feel like tech classes in me2 are more reliable than biotics unlike me1. the drone do all the hard work for u :).
but i repeat thats my opinion...

My personal favorite is the soldier, i think im going to start up another playthrough right now. I like being able to not need to rely on my squadmates. Which is why my next playthrough will most likely be an Assault sentinel. Seems very fun and versatil. My very first insanity run was with a sentinel but I didnt really get the most out of it, so Im going to give it another go.

I dont know why but i just dont find Vanguards fun at all. Its probably because of all of the hype around how fun they are. Like people who don't like Tali because of the amount of people who do.

I think I first realised that I'd contracted a cas of Vanguarditis when I realised that I was dictating where and when all combat was actually taking place. Beng able to teleport around like a loony is win.

To state there is no best class is saying that all classes are perfectly balanced. The balance isn't bad, in fact quite easily Biowares best balancing effort, but no they are still not perfectly balanced.

Thats true, but Soldier and Infiltrator classes have a less learning curve than say the Adept or Vanguard class, thus making it easier.

My main storyline Shep is a Vanguard (but I cant use it on Insanity), my easiest/deadliest class is my infiltrator, and my fav class is the engineer.

Im working on a ME1 port Sentinel right now. Seems like fun but I need to learn how to use Warp explosions better.

Objectively, there is a "best class". It might be difficult to determine what class is actually the best, but it's not unreasonable to say such a class does exist depending on how we define "best". We just don't have all the required data to conclusively prove that one class is above the others. Regardless, we could define "best" as some sort of index of highest potential average killing speed in the most types of situations with highest potential survivability. That index is necessarily going to be different for each class. I'm not going to have a stab at what class is the best, because it's all opinion.

Well, the definition of best is up in the air, though ...

For instance, is femshep > maleshep due to better voice acting? Is adept the best due to being more spectacular and photogenic (when combos work)?

Personally, I reckon the flamethrower is the best heavy weapon, 'cos it's small and cute and makes femshep's back look good. The same goes for the shuriken machine pistol ...

Anyone who says the Adept can't handle Insanity is silly. I had the easiest time beating Insanity with an Adept. Singularity and Pull + Warp is ridiculously powerful. I know of no weapon or power combination that can kill five Collectors in one hit (on a platform) short of a heavy weapon.

But then the Adepts can't one shot enemies like Infiltrators and Soldiers can, or totally lockdown the battlefield like an Engineer, or have as much mobility as a Vanguard, or as much tanking ability like a Sentinel, and etc,

Every class is totally playable. The difference is playstyle.

adept - fun but not always 'useful' on insanity(look at Talis loyalty mission-personally i had a very hard time dealing with all those geths at lvl 30 on Alarei).

Bring Zaeed for Squad Disruptor Ammo and then use Talis AI Hacking. Make liberal use of your Energy Drain bonus power (if you're doing NG+) and tempest, and then slap down a singularity and blow those Hunters to heck. Hunters are your biggest threat, and a singularity makes them harmless since they're only dangerous when they get close. And since Geth like to stick together, a Singularity + Warp Detonation will make quick work of any Geth Troopers who group up.

When I said theres no "best" class, I meant it in the way that there is no class everyone can pick up and instantly dominate insanity with. I, for instance, am best at clearing rooms and such with the soldier. The combination of the Revenant, Viper, and Evi is great for me and thats what I'm best at. But for other people, having powers that are great at controlling the battlefield is what they are best at. And I didnt say that every class can enter the same room and clear it in the same time. Different classes are good at defeating a certain type of enemy in certain situations. Of course though, some people will debate that [insert random class here] can clear the widest variety of rooms efficiently. But all of the classes can be specc'd differently for each mission, and paired with the right squaddies, breeze through right about any level.

ha. agreed. You think that after all of her fans raving Tali into becoming an LI, they would have given her a good set of powers and weapons so that people will be encouraged to bring her along more.

It was basically a lampooning quote taken directly from the text of the OP.  Adept is fun for the entire family on Insanity, in my experience.  It's fun to make enemies stand around in combat like they're waiting for a bus.

What happened to all of the quality trolls? They use to put effort into trolling, these kids now a days put forth no effort and fail miserably.

One thing people are never quite clear on is what they mean by best: 1) the most efficient at killing? 2) has the greatest surviveability? 3) the most fun? (Only played solider, engineer, infiltrator, and vanguard on insanity so far)

Item 1 could probably be measured if someone took the time to do so; of course people play differently so an average might be necessary. Personally, I'd give the edge to the infiltrator since they can one-shot almost anyone in their field of vision with the widow. Item 2 depends a little on how one plays. Infiltrator for their cloak, soldier for adrenaline rush, engineers because they can sit back and nuke, and sentinel has their tech shields; vanguard not so much for obvious reasons. As for fun, that's largely subjective. I'm really enjoying the vanguard, along with many other people, because the out-and-out brawling can be intense. Sure, you can be aggressive with soldier or sentinel but it doesn't have the same urgency : P.

side note:
Time to finish game -
Soldier 48 hours (first play through)
Engineer 28 hours
Infiltrator (Became too easy, stopped after just getting widow at 11 hours)
Vanguard (Still playing, going to hit collector ship at 10 hours)

Soldier seems to out class the others, but it really depends on what you prefer doing. If you go by generic fps standards that sniping is the best, then I guess Infiltrator is the best.
