I have a feeling in the next game when you go meet the council it will be on your ship and it will be in a private session this way we can finally get the truth out of them. Shepard is a spectre again if you made s/he one. This will decide wether what is true and what is false in the next game. I hope bioware pulls a 360 and makes us grin for it in the next game.

Not really. While there are ways to prove that data hasn't been manipulated, there is no way to prove it isn't fabricated (ie, fake). Especially if you did the inconvenient tidbit about destroying the Collector Base.

One sound recording was enough to revoke Saren's spectre status. They obviously checked wether it is fake or not.

On one hand, considering the skepticism they treat everything else, that's actually the odd incident out. On the other hand, Occam's Razor would supply that Tali had the Geth memory core itself.

None the less, data on a data pad is not proof something exists, let alone it's intentions, which is the actual issue about the Reapers. Lies are easy to digitize.

Well one things for sure....when the large army of Reapers (the one scene at the end of the game) enters Citadel space and starts attacking planet that contain a combination of alien races (Turians, Asari's, Elcor, Hanar, Salarians, Volus, Quarians, Humans and so on), the Council definitely wont be able to say: OH! You mean that one place that just got attacked.....we have no idea what you are talking about. and IF they say that then...well i will let you imagination figure it out from their. Lolz

I like how many of the planet descriptions in ME2 involve some sort of unexplained mass extinction event of evidence of ancient, unexplained mass driver fire into a planet.

I think the Council will move from air quotes to sticking fingers in ears and yelling, "La la la! I can't hear you!" Extra style points if this is done while Reapers are visible in the skies behind them.

As amusing as the "Ah yes, Reapers" meme is, the council is trying to give Cerberus the finger and making excuses for not cooperating with them. The council races know the reapers are real, and so does everybody on the council. They're publicly denying it because they don't want to create a panic, but they're all working on things in secret to do about it.

The Turians specifically had the Thanix guns, which are reverse engineered Reaper tech. They know it wasn't really Geth tech, not least because none of the Geth ships were based on completely unrelated technology and had nothing comparable to it's firepower. Since then the races have all been doing things about it - the council races have ramped up military production (if the council died, they use growing inter-species tension as a cover for why they need increased production), the Asari got their fancy Silaris armor and enhanced drives. I'm sure the Salarians are doing something about it, but we haven't heard what it is yet. We didn't hear about it because their intelligence services are so great ;) The Alliance has researched and deployed its new Javelin system since ME1.

The Batarians were deploying those huge space based mirrors, presumably as a part of some kind of humongous laser defense grid (lasers ignore kinetic barriers etc). Whether they actually know about the Reapers or are just doing it to defend from the Geth's new scary flagships is unknown, but it's possible that the Council warned other major powers about the Reapers in secret.

I have to say that i agree to some extent

it does seem weired that even in ME1 and more in ME2 found around the galaxy plants with evidence of dreadnought class precision strikes on planets and some of the from the same time period

kind of hard to see how there was no more interest on this plants?!

the only strange thing is about the absolute lack of evidence by shep' could have been solved by putting a god damn camera!!!!!!! in the suit... come on that is just ridiculous that all the tech in the galaxy and nobody thought of putting a camera in your armor suit?!?!?!?!

if any of you played Halo, even the marines there had a camera

and the part about the cannons of the Normandy is right, no other Geth ship had them, if they had the technology they would have used it on more ships...stands to reason

i think in ME3 the council will show up with a few bad ass anti-reaper dreadnoughts...that will probably be blown to bits in the first wave but still...it's the thought the counts

Plenty of people (including governments) have a hard time telling between legitimate video and subtle CGI/manipulation today: in the future, it's only going to get better. There's a reason that cameras intended for recording evidence are made in such a way that the owner can't manipulate the recording (such as UFO/mythical creature hobbiests, or police recorders). Insurgents today have been able to hack in on drone video feeds with 20 dollar software: imagine if they were someone with actual funding and resources.

Irrefutable evidence has to meet a number of conditions, one of which is that it can't have been altered/faked.When that isn't available, the credibility of the witness is highly important. And unfortunately for Shepard, Cerberus has plenty of resources to fake lower-grade recordings and the Council thought Shepard was delusional in the first game, and dieing and being rebuilt by Cerberus doesn't enhance the credibility of his mental state. There are plenty of possibilities (and actualities) that Cerberus is using Shepard for its own benefit, and supporting his Reaper delusion could be just another tactic.

It isn't, but you really only have your word on it. And since your word is the one in question...

Turian Councilor:"Ah yes, Reapers the immortal race of sentient starships allegedly waiting in darkspace.....we have dismissed those claims."
Shepard:"But this data pad shows.."
Turian:"DISMISSED.."
Shepard:"But..."
Turian:"Claim...dismissed!"
Asari Councilor:This meeting is adjourned.

*Shepard walks away with a visible vein popping in his/her forehead anime style*

Edit:Damn someone beat me to it already.

I really hope you're right. They come back in ME3 and say they believed Shepard and were taking secret action, but couldn't say so because of possible infiltration by Reaper allies. We know the Reapers have allies who prep the battlefield, so to speak, so when they arrive they just start uh reaping.

You know that datapad with reaper info that Shepard is holding at the end of ME2? Do you think that the council will finally do something about it or will they have another smart ass remark?

I could honestly see the turian calling it a fake.

It's space Photoshop.

I find it implausible that we would have the software to interpret 'Reaper data' or that our standard issue data pads could hold it. Can you say, 'Format Error'!

Hell, we can't even read Prothean datapads yet.

The Turian Councilor will just use his "Air Quotes" Squad ability and make the evidence ignored.

But honestly I'll bet they will just place Shepard under arrest claiming he is mentally unstable and making the reapers up to satisfy his delusions.
