as you get to play Ferelden´s Warden Commander in Awakening, I´m right now making another playthrough from scratch to built up a character as the "perfect" Warden Commander from a RP point of view.
Right now I´m trying to figure out, what path would make the most sense for a person who gets to see himslef as the successor of Duncan after a while (at least the PC is allways treated as the highest ranking warden, despite of Allistair being around as well). I´m just thinking now about some of the decisions to be made, especially at landsmeet and at the end.
At the landsmeet I´m pretty sure, I will not mess with politics and let Anora be queen, without Alistair becoming king. A Warden should fight the blight, not making kings ...
But then I wonder if this might be my first playthrough where Loghain survives. The "no politics" approach will definitly forbid to execute Loghain. Then Allistair leaves, hm hurts to loose a member of the squad, also hurts to loose a friend. But then maybe Allistair just wasn´t a very great Warden if he can´t get his personal emotions out of making decisions. I think I might go that way and see how it works out (in any case the PC does not know, that Allistair will leave before the decision is made ...).
Morrigans ritual is a no-no, nothing related to the blight shall survive, and the swamp witch is not what you call a 100% trustworthy person .... which brings me to the crucial question: sacrifice my PC or the second warden (Ali or Loghain) in the end. I think I could not let Ali make him sacrifice himself, as he´s young and has a future, but maybe with Loghain I could see it different and as real good way to let him pay for what was done before and at the same time get reputation of the wardens go up, not sure about that though.
With the faction decision, I´m only wondering about the decisons at the dwarves. The mages will survive, as then you have potentially the templars and the mages at your disposal (allthough it´s not the case ingame, but at least you have the potential for it). The werewolves and elves follow the same pattern, if you can have both parties survive, both might be fighting for your cause at the end.
But at the dwarves it get´s tricky. First of all, choose Bhelen or Harrwomont. This time I will really spend a lot of time to look for every ingame hint, to judge whom of them would be the better choice for the wardens. I have no idea yet. Also at the anvil it will become tricky. Branka is lunatic and doomed her people to the darkspawn. To side with Carrdin is obvious for me. But then I would really consider the golems a great source of power against the darkspawn. And if we wardens sacrifice a good chunk of our lifespan, the sacrifice to become a golem may also be acceptable. I will try to play it out that way - kill Branka, but not let the anvil be destroyed. I hope I can persuade Shale to stay with me ...
Now, next point is the love interests. Actually I think, a warden commander should be bound to duty and not be distracted by love. Let´s see if I can resist Lelianna ...
About the party companions I´m also not sure right now. I think I will bring Alistair with me, as he is the second warden and another person sensing the darkspawn is certainly useful. Other than that I´m really not sure, allthough I certainly will bring Oghren and Shale to the deep roads, given they might have useful information at hand in this area.
So, that´s my musings so far, I would really hear someone else´s thoughts on that topic as well. In any case I will try to RP the situations as they come up, but given the fact, that this will be my 5th or 6th playthrough I´m somehow spoiled allready ... thus I would appreciate your feedback on my thoughts.
