I have a couple of different naming thoughts, if you will indulge me.
My cats (the ones that didn't come from a shelter) have all been named "cat" in some langage or other. I have had Cath Anwyll, Welsh for beloved cat; Gattino, kitten in Italian; and the misnamed Petit Chat who was supposed to be a little French cat.
My plan when we have a place big enough for a hound or two is to name them after various writers and/or philosophers. Austen, Kit or Marlow, Gibran, Plato, or perhaps just Poet.
The favorite of my mabari was for my mage. I named him Templar.
Name for my Dog?

Our dog will be a female black Lab puppy. I can't really tell the difference, but I believe she's an English Lab, meaning her face is boxier than American Labs, amongst other differences. I have a preference for human names, by the way. I really like Lucy, at the moment, as do my mother and sister, but my brother disagrees as always, and my dad is fine with anything. Also try to steer away from one-syllable names, my mom really doesn't like them.
Well, I really like the name "Isobel".
A human name, check.
Multi-sylable, check.

Gotta keep your mage in line.
As for your cat naming strategy, in case you are looking for new material, the Finnish word for cat is "kissa"

so my advice is to name your dog something appropriate to whistle and call out to.

Name her after the mermaid from the little mermaid!
I will be EPIC!
You are in so much trouble, Mr.
I also support naming dogs unusual names. In my family, we regularly name our pets after various mythological figures, gods/goddesses, or constellations.(Such as.. Our older dog is named Orion, and so we named our new puppy Sirius.)
How about Cassie, after Cassiopeia? It's a constellation. (We actually used that name for one of our old ferrets when I was younger.) Cassie is normal enough sounding, with a more interesting background behind the name.
