I just go with the default Shep, he looks the best anyway.

I spent a long time tweaking my female Sheps. If I didn't like one little thing I would have to start a new one...took forever cause we can't skip the opening.

I spent probably around 20 minutes making a Manshep that was pretty close to what I looked like. My second manshep I spent only a couple minutes making and he turned out looking fairly badass. The only problem I have with the editor is in relation to cheeks other than that I don't have much problems with it. As of late I've been having greater problems in creating femsheps.

Er... isn't default male shepard based on some male supermodel?
Anyway I like the look of my custom male shep, but I'm a straight male (no rly) so maybe I'm not the best judge (no, RLY).

I spent about half an hour then just gave up and went with the default.

Nope..
I dont know how some people have such a hard time trying to create their own Shep. It's not that hard. You just really have to get the feel of him down right, and your off to roleplaying!

It would have been nice to have multiple voice options.

Just used my Sheps from ME1.
Can't seem to get a decent femshep though... they always seem to turn out just looking exactly the same, but with different hair.

No, I gave up after 10 minutes and decided "he looks alright". (Did the same with ME1, luckily I got to fix that mistake in ME2, good lord that man was hideous)
It ended pretty nicely, though his cheekbones are a bit... Disproportionate. (Hard to tell when the face is pointed in your direction...)

Nope, for maleShep I just xferred over my Sheploo from the first game. I did spend a rather large amount of time trying to create a custom face in ME1 though, which obviously failed. Hard.

Yes.
I hate the way the default manShep looks. I can't stand the hair options. I hate that I can't get the cheeks to work right, and the inability to check the face from all angles leaves you with a frontal view that looks fine, until he turns to Joker to say something and you discover that the jawline is messed up. Ugh. UGH!

I made a pretty cool looking femshep once in the editor which took at least an hour to make. I was pretty satisfied with it until I watched the cinematic and realized that her cheek was sunken halfway into her skull. >.>

Yeah that editor is useless when it comes to determining how the Cheeks look. I have failed Hard many times in that respect.

Took me maybe 3 times before I was completely happy on my very first Shep. After that I got one I liked on the first try for my second Shep. Not too hard nor does it take too much time for me. I like my customs way better then the default.

Yeah it took me a heck of a long time to create a decent looking male Shepard, and guess what? He still looks like everyone elses created Shepard.
I felt like kicking BioWare if the nuts when I noticed the create player had not even been touched. I really hope they improve it vastly for ME3.
And allow for the cutscene to be skipped if you decide to let the create player option to be made after the intro. Its frikkin annoying having to keep going through that.

No.
And yes OP, at least in ME1.
There's another thread for this though.

I thought you were going to say "...scanning for minerals?" to which I would reply YES.
But I also spent quite a long time making my FemShep and two ManSheps. At least a week each tinkering with different settings until I got them juuuuust right. And what with the new Xbox modding ability I've spent probably the last 2 weeks now going back and moding their appearances... -

Well, handsome is subjective. There's only one face that I've made that has yielded believable results and I see A LOT of members here posting their custom Shepards only for them to look nothing like a 32 year old, even while being a soldier. There's little things that can change a stressed soldier's face and then there's the Mass Effect character creator which can make Shepard look 15-25 years older. I can only suspend disbelief so much.

Well, if the Mass Effect timeline is anything to go by it's only been 28 years since the First Contact War and in that time humanity has somehow spread to every corner of the galaxy, become the most populous race on both the Citadel and Omega (despite both being in alien hands for several thousand years prior), built a bustling mega-city on Beckenstein (which again somehow wasn't settled by any other race for two thousand years despite being on the Citadel's doorstep), founded self-sustaining colonies on worlds throughout the Terminus Systems, and have their own embassy on the Citadel and a man on the Council despite many races in the galactic community having waited millenia for such things.
You wanna talk about suspending disbelief...
I pretty much just threw the established timeline out and pretend it's about 200 years further in the future than it is and my Shepard is however old I want him to be.

My male Shepard from ME1 was decent in a frontal view but horrible in a side view. I corrected him in Mass Effect 2 and now he looks cool. This bad experience at least taught me to be more careful when i was creating my custom elf in Dragon Age.
