What kind of party, from your experience and point of view, us players of Dragon Age should use?

I saw somewhere that having 2 Mages, a good and evil one, a rogue plus a warrior, should be the best, but from my experience i understood that wasn't so, because when i get to play Orzammar, i had problems in facing Darkspawn and getting killed for several times...

So now i think i should get a party consisting of 2 Warriors, 1 Rogue, and a Mage, since i have Morrigan that developed healing power, i should be fine with it, lol.

What's your opinion?

Thanx for your posts, much appreciated...
:)

Depends on what your character is I suppose.

Usually I have Wynne as a healer and Leliana as an archer, trained as a Bard and a Ranger. So she makes a great support unit.

Then my main as a Rogue dual wield, or a soldier with sword and shield. Then have Alistair / Sten if I'm a rogue, and Zevran or Shale if I'm a soldier.

So one of each class basically.

Thats the joy of DAO you can have the party you want, everyones got different opinions. Just use who you fill comfortable with :). If you keep dying prehaps need to change tatics make the enemy come to you rarther then charging in or if your tank is in trouble cast forcefield on him ;)

I'm a bit of a stickler, no matter how many characters I play, I pretty much always use the same party.

That party is:

Me - Warrior Tank

Leliana - Archer & Unlocker

Alistair - 2H or Dual Wielding Warrior

Wynne - Healer

My reasoning isn't just about the roles I need but I play on Nightmare so a healer makes things go smoothly. But instead I bring that party along for the roleplay. Leliana won't leave my side, we're always in love. Alistair is such an integral part of the whole story, I think playing without him would lose out on so much. And Wynne is there from the start in Ostagar even if she's not in your party. About the only other person I'd include is Morrrigan but she's not a goody two shoes like my character so she doesn't approve. After that, the others are more added in characters, not important to the story. Oh and of course with Extra Dog Slot I always have my faithful Mabari hound with me. (http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=664)

Overall I agree with previous statements though, play with your party, however you want to. Even on Nightmare the game isn't too difficult as long as your characters specialise in what they are doing.

Me Spirit Healer/Blood Mage.
Leliana Bard/Ranger
Sten Reaver
Alistair Templar/Champion

If I'm a Warrior.
Me Templar/Reaver
Alistair Templar/Champion
Leliana Brad/Ranger or Zevran Assassin/Duelist
Morrigan Shapeshifter/Spirit Healer and respected as a Healer with a little bit of support/damager.

If I'm a Rouge
Me Assassin/Duelist
Alistair Templar/Champion
Sten Reaver
Morrigan Shapeshifter/Spirit Healer

Forcefield is your best friend, that is the best advice anyone can give.

I usually try to go for a mix of utility and roleplaying.

My first playthrough-
Me: Sword and Shield Warrior Champion/Templar
Wynn: Healbot Spirit Healer
Lelianna: Unlocking Dual Wield  Bard/Duelist (no respec mods. Bad idea. Underperformed)
alternating
Alistair: Sword and Shield Templar/Champion
or
Oghren: Two Handed Berserker/Templar (for the mental bonuses)

My current playthrough, I have yet to settle on a party. But what I do have currently is:
Me: Spirit School focued Arcane Warrior
Sten: Two Handed (probably going to go berserker)
Shale: Rock Tank!
Zeveran or Lelianna: Dual Wield Assassin or Ranged Bard (both are sucking at unlocking >.>)

Edit: Slipped and hit "Submit" before I was done

I don't think there really is a "best" party. I will say that Wynne's presence makes most fights a lot easier, but she's certainly not essential.

And she's annoying.

I rather like her as a character, but to each their own, I guess.

My last play through as a Noble Dwarf I ran Sten, Ohgren, and the dwarf as two handers with Wynne as a healer.

My current play through I take the 3 least experienced characters with me when I assemble a party.

Wynne is basically a healer, but she is getting on a bit with age. So, i have Alistair, Leliana, and Morrigan.

As i am also a mage, i get the group heal and revival anyway, and i also get Morrigan the same.

Either one of us can then group heal or revive...and believe me it has really helped a lot.

So you don't really need Wynne, except for the circle tower quest and return to Ostegar...as Alistair wanted her there :)

I just use whoever I feel like using. If I think "Oh, I haven't used Sten much this time around" I'll bring him out for a bit or I'll think "Aww, my dog looks sad in camp." I'll take him out to eat darkspawn. I don't think I've ever planned a party for combat effectiveness or used a single party set up for the whole game. Generally though I like to include Alistair and Morrigan as they are my favorite characters.

I have over a dozen characters but many of them are still relatively early in the game (Soldiers Peak, RTO, and maybe Shale and one or two of the main quest lines completed) and one thing I have noticed thus far is I have a hard time leaving Alistair behind.

Regardless of any role he might play later in the game (no spoilers allowed here) I suspect it mostly has to do with his role at Ostagar and his status as a warden that it just doesn't seem "right" to leave him sitting in camp just because I can (from an RP basis).

Thus he remains a part of almost every party of mine...

Others tend to come and go somewhat. I have no problem leaving Leli behind if I am playing a rogue but if I am not she is there - I have not tried using Zev as the party rogue yet mostly because Leli shows up first I suppose.

I tend to play mostly "good aligned" PCs so I don't have too much trouble leaving Morrigan and her somewhat callous attitude behind either but she is still featured in some of my groups and I am quite fond of Wynne and thus she plays a role in most of my groups as well.

As others have mentioned my group choices tend to depend mostly on what sort of PC I am playing both from a class/ability standpoint as well as an RP stance.

Dog plays a role in almost all of my early game parties - a somewhat longer role perhaps if I do not need to replace him with Leli for rogue skills but I usually find myself replacing him with some two legged companion reasonably early regardless. (I am currently thinking about a party that will feature dog throughout the game as my faithful and ever present companion).

There is no best party, it depends on what you are best with.

Currently I run Shale, Wynne, Zevran and Dualwield rogue PC and it owns.

Other owning combos are 3 rogues + dog, 3 mages (main PC as AW to tank) + Leliana archer.

But I also kicked ass already with 3 warriors (one of each wepaon type) + Leliana.

For me the best praty all the way is two healing mages and then to 2 warriors and then set your mages to heal the warriors and then you have an unstoppable party

The best party is:

Mage PC DD

Zev DD DW + Lockpicking

Wynne Healing Mage

Morrigan DD Mage

Its actually easy to kill any boss on nightmare if you build it right :D

Personally my favourite party so far comprises of playable character as an Arcane Warrior for all round awesomeness, Leliana as a dual wield rogue for lockpicking and bard skils, Wynne for healer and buffs and Sten as a 2-Hander who can double as a tank.

Completely blitzed nightmare with this setup.
