You know near the end of ME1 you get your ship impounded, at first okay, a new twist in the storyline but the way it was put together leaved a bad taste in my mouth and i'm like what's the point, that whole thing last about 3 minutes.....
Go to the citadel, find out you cant leave, go talk to Anderson, leave..... Eh ok.... that was fun... or not.
Anyone else was like : What's the point of that ?

You weren't allowed to go to Ilos, but unlike the Council and that little idiot named Udina, Captain Anderson knew it was a race-against-time kind of thing and thought of a way for Shepard to leave the Citadel and head to the Mu Relay for Ilos. Otherwise, Sovereign would have destroyed the Citadel Tower's roof on the Council and Udina's heads with them trying to figure out if Shepard was certain of what he was saying.
It was basically a detention.

Hmm how about going to IIos is the point of no return and getting detained at the Citadel gives you a chance to complete some missions.
Just minor sidequests and extra paragon or renegade points to help you have enough for the Saren confrontation.

Because you are supposed to hate the council?

I don't know...train you to hate the council and Udina... or maybe use some reverse psychology on you so you would end up sacrificing the council and choosing Anderson, so you'll end up screwing yourself over because saving the council and choosing Udina will end up with a better outcome in ME3, I don't really know, just saying what's on my mind.

Yeah I think with Udina & the Council they want to see who can stick it out and who gives in and gets rid of them (and might regret it in ME3). Hell, at the very least Udina got a much deserved punch in the face, and I'd rather have the council around to always remind I was right and they were wrong.

Yeah, cause they're totally agreeing with you in ME2

I can't help but wonder if the councilors aren't actually under the influence of some evolved form of indoctrination that is forcing them to play down the Reaper threat while still appearing, y'know, normal (well as normal as they can be).
