Dragon Age:Origins: daroigins.exe - Apllication Error

The exception unknown software exeption(0x40000015) occurred in the aplication at location 0x008b2a7c.

click bla bla you get the idea.

is this something regular or is this suppose to be fixed by now and i just havent found the fix. i can play the game at full specs for about 30 min to an hour, some times its less. if i drop the specs i useually get more time but it always seems to crash this way every time i play. i quit playing for a long time because of this, i was hopeing the latest patch would have fixed the problem but still nothing.

any suggestions. ill post my specs if you need me to. any way any help would be great.

Do you have any alternate RAM that you can test the game with?  That could very well be a damaged memory DIMM you have, acting up when it gets warm.

sadly no. i have 3 pc's and this is the only one capable of running the game. on the same note i can run other games with out this problem. pretty much any game other then this one runs fine. includeing fall out 3 on full specs UT3 full specs. prototype(not full specs but high enough to make it look good.) and some other games i have of this gen. nothing seems to crash but this game.

also im running a fairly new vcard. i got the game right after the card and have had this problem sence i got the game the bridge scene at ostergar with all the rain and effects i can get about 5 min so i have to rush threw to climbing the tower as well as randomly afterwards given the time i stated above.

Let's have a look at the hardware environment & etc, then:

Basic Hardware Specification Chart (Empty so far)

Processor Manufacturer: AMD / Intel
Processor Name / Type: Athlon 64 / Pentium / C2D / dual core / quad, etc.
Processor Speed:  ?.? Ghz (or AMD Performance Number)
Operating System / Service Pack: WindowsXP with SP #?, Win7, Vista ? (Oh, no!)
System RAM: ? ? GBs (MBs, if less than 1024 ? )
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: ATI / Nvidia (only those two are supported, PERIOD, so answer which of them you have)
Video Card Model: (examples) Radeon HD 5670 / Geforce GT 240
Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (use the numbers, not the word "latest")
Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs
Sound Card Manufacturer:
Sound Card Model:

(And this is only for the raw hardware variations.  Potential software conflicts are far more likely to be game play problems, and developers cannot test for all possible program loads.)

They don't make it easy to do so.  You have to save off your game saves, uninstall, reinstall, and then locate the last prior (1.02A) patch to use.

abit of an update i can play all the way threw the origin story's before going to ostigar all the way up to the siege of ostigar before this error happens. its quite well annoying cause it seems that once i get out in to the real game its a crash fest.

here is what im guessing. as i get longer play with less graphics. im thinking its filling up my memory cash and when it fills up it refuses to release any and there for crashes giving an error. the reason i feel this way is that more glitz = more mem usage = quicker filling up my my ram and vram. less = longer play time. its hard to belive they havent fixed this bug yet.

If you just lose your character, what would be the point of backing up your savegames?  In other words: no, you won't lose your character.  You might have to force load due to rolling back the patch, but it should still work.  And you can always re-apply the patch if you have to and then continue on with the character that way.

If it's a problem with your hardware, then there's no bug for them to fix.  Is the memory address in the crash message always the same?  I.e.  the "at location" part?

You pass the system requirements and not recommended.  So you will not be able to play with all the bells and whistles enabled.

You will need to upgrade to crank it up.

I would stick with lower settings and use patch 1.02a

belive it or not it runs really smooth with the settings on high or ultra high. there are few parts that really slow down my pc. i agree im just a the bring of good and bad but for a 4 year old pc it can really kick some butt. especially after i upgraded my vcard. i keep my settings on med to high just so i can play for an hr or more with out being interrupted as much. either way i just want to beable to play longer then 30 min to an hr and have at least what looks decent qulity video. the fact that i keep getting it after ostergard is really strange.

and as for the patch i have tryed every patch it doesnt help thats why i havent played in so long. its a shame to cause i really enjoy the game.

the last 3 runs threw counting the one above gave the same error. exactly i can even reproduce this error. as one run threw i actually got threw with out incident. but on the bridge level the first hurlock attacking the knights you find if i use my archaine blast, flame blast, winters grasp skills, everything is fine till i get to winters grasp, then it dies on me.

so can anyone tell me what that means for me? this is only with one character as of course i have more then one and im sure i could prob lay figure out how to reproduce it with the others using different skills.

played for a bit after the bridge got the exact same error right outside of loathring fighting the bandits by the feild on the outskerts right next to the spiders that are there. this time it was as the battle started. the only thing i did was attack. useing a staff with the archaine blast spell. this doesnt just happen with my mage it also happens with all the other characters i have played. this is one of the big spots that seam to kill the game for me. this fight. another one happens with the bandits gathered by the house on the hill.

so far its been the same error. i hope this is informative. and i really hope i can get some help.

What version of the .NET Framework do you guys have installed?

To find out what didymos is asking type or copy and past

javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent)
into IE address bar.
It will be next to .NET CLR is the versions you have first two number x.x are the ones that matter, maybe more I'm not sure if service packs would matter.
(Also listed in C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework)
Anyways.
I have 3.5 , 1.1, 2.0, 3.0.

I know this game doesn't require 4.0 ....

No, it doesn't, but since I installed 4.0, I've yet to see any crashes and the memory leak issue is apparently gone.  Either that or it's just leaking much more slowly.  Which is still a good thing, if not ideal.  Anyway, updating to 4.0 may clear up the constant throwing of exceptions as well.

The worst I've seen since updating .NET was the game seeming to freeze after I told it to take a screenshot.  I alt-tabbed out to see if it had crashed, but there was no error dialog.  Alt-tabbed back in to find it behaving normally, and kept playing.  Basically, it looks like some of these low-level bugs (as opposed to, say, forgetting to make sure that DEX actually has an effect on dagger damage) might be more .NET's fault than the game's.
