When my PC is good enough to play the game, I'll have enough money to buy the game. Of course I'd have it for the mods and stuff, since those will not be on XBox

Ahhh, i see thanks for the reply RAD..... BTW getting a max of 95fps in creator in close up facial view and 115 FPS in full body view with my 8800GT

My rig is decent other than my 7600 GT. It has me pretty worried. Running Risen is a pain- though I can run Oblivion and Fallout 3 pretty comfortably.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to run DA:O-- guessing that I'll get pretty sub par FPS on the higher settings, mind you.

I'm running Win7
2 7600 GT KO's on Sli,
Core 2 Duo 6300 at 1.86 ,1.87ghz
2.00g Ram
1024 x 768 at 80 htz.. (that's as high as my monitor goes at 80hz.. anything above has to be at 60hz and that's too much flicker for me.)

CC runs at
82 Fps all settings set all the way at low to the left
49 Fps all settings set to default
29 Fps all settings set to high to the right.
Windows Experience Dealy is 5.2 (don't know if that really matters)

Fallout 3 ran great on my computer on full settings
Oblvion had to keep grass and shadows down a bit but other than that ran great.
Crysis demo ran fine except for cut scenes for some reason at setting on high.  Cut scenes ran like a slide show.

I just disabled SLI again and it was still pegged at 60, so something must have been wrong when I noticed it at 15 and decided to post. It's all good now though

I loved Gothic 1 and 2,  3 was really fun to explore but that was about it.. I am however looking forward to seeing how they do with Arcania.  Looks good so far.

Happy to hear you got it worked out.  Strange nonesensical problems are always the worst.
I noticed that every now and then the CC gets weirdly choppy.. I'm not sure what it is but jostling the settings seems to set it right.  I'm still torn between buying it on xbox or pc first..  (i'll get them on both eventually.).  I have it pre-ordered at gamestop on pc but they are pretty good about letting you change out if they have enough copies.

I was afraid you'd say that! The rest of my system cuts it, but my graphics card is seriously under-par (its an old Geforce 7300 GS). I'll probably buy anyway to see how it runs. Not worried about slow frame rate too much, I'm definately a pauser, but I hate messing around with new graphics cards / drivers. Can anyone point me to a noob guide for installing same?

ouch, a 7300 is kinda pushing it. Installing a new graphics card is easy.
  • Download newest drivers from nVidia (yes I am biased vs ATI)
  • Uninstall old drivers. Go to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > nVidia Drivers, select uninstall.
  • Shut down the machine. Open the case. Take out old card. Put in new card.
  • Turn on machine. A window will likely pop up saying "new hardware found". Press "Cancel" on that.
  • Install new drivers downloaded from nvidia.
You just have to determine what kind of slot you have before buying a new card. If your running a 7300 I am guessing you may have an AGP slot. If that is the case, I am pretty sure you can only upgrade to a 7600, and that really isn't worth it. You might want to start saving for a new computer. You can probably pick up an old computer with a PCI-E slot for around 300 on craigslist or ebay. Another 200 on a graphics card and you will be ready for the Age of Dragons

Thanks for that. The last time I upgraded my (old) rig I had terible trouble with the drivers, and it took me hours to get my new card working. Have a PCI-E slot, but I'm worried about the 200 Euro's (that's nearly 200 of her Majesty's pounds to me) for a new card. If I have to bite the bullet, I can throw in some more RAM to stop my CPU becoming a bottleneck.

Any suggestions for reasonably priced cards that should run this game? Remember I'm a noob who only found out the 7300 was not superior to the 6800 a few hours ago.

I'm going to guess that an inexpensive 8800 GT will give you pretty good performance for around $100. However, I don't know how you are going to get around a CPU bottleneck with a RAM upgrade.

I get 130+ fps.
That's with everything maxed and full AA.
Running Vista 32 bit, 1.66 GHz Quad Core, Nvidia 285, 4 GB RAM.

Damn! your all set... those are my next upgrades, minus Vista....doing Duel Core, 2gig ram and 8800GT at this time, still pulling descent playable numbers i'm sure.

I'm very similar to yours Magonian, with a Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs of RAM and an 8800 GT. I'm not really planning on upgrading, though my monitor's native resolution is 1280X1024 so at that res you can crank everything else up to max. I would suggest maybe you wait until you see the game in action. You might be pretty happy with how it runs with what you got now.

Game runs at 60 FPS here with a dip to the early 40's when changing the face sliders. Settings very high with x4 AA (just checked with x8 and its exactly the same apart from the face slider FPS drop, that goes to the late 30's.)

Rig:

i7 940
GTX295
Win 7 RC 64bit
6 gig of ram

You should be getting much the same, I can't see DA:O being more taxing on the system than Crysis. However it's worth asking if you're running the latest drivers. If you're still having problems try downloading Nhancer, it's a useful tool that offers many of the hidden options that the Nvidia Control Panel doesn't.

So the problem isn't with the engine not liking more modern tech I'd say its a fault your end somewhere.
