Unlocking the specials permanently sucks! I know I would miss having to do a quest or whatever right or in a certain way just because I found a specialization in my previous game.

That's like taking content out of the game...

I do love the game, but I think it's sad to see how most developers these days are pulling content OUT of games instead of adding value to the game. i guess it's because they want to treat us like junkies with their dlc crap. I know DAO is far from the worst case scenario but still you can feel this sad trend sneaking in everywhere (Like a certain quest giver in my camp who's really just a commercial for dlc.

Never in my life had i imagined that i would one day play a game where I would get the message; Agree to do the quest (buy & download dlc)

If this gets worse in the years to come I won't be paying for the games unless the price get's chopped in half (I pay for content, not for advertising)

End rant....

Does it matter? There is an infinite gold cheat for all versions of this game that is confirmed by me to work anyway...

Can someone please tell me how to unlock Blood Mage? I can't figure it out. Thanks!

Blood Magic is knowledge taught by demons, you'll have to find some way to get one to teach you...

I was pissed when I found out the Raven respec mod unlocks all the specializations (I would have downloaded the respec ring if the Raven's description had said this).

As it is I'm just playing with my House Rule not to use the Specs until I actually unlock them (but maaaannn... do I want to teach Champion to my lil city elf hottie). The + is annoying, too.

That's alright, I found a No Starting Abilities and No Auto-leveling NPCs mod on fileplanet this morning, so I can replace the Raven for my next playthru.

Nope i already unlocked most of the specializations on my first playthrough... Bloodmage and Reaver being left out. But i did reload when i got bloodmage and reaver. I just didn't like the things you have to do to get them. Oh and you can do this with achievements to!!! Like bedding Zevran but you don't really want to...

Bought books + stocked up on gifts to bump approval ratings. Reloaded after each of them. Did same thing with reaver to not lose Wynne. Only one you can't get as a non-mage is bloodmage. Unlocks and achievements are just symptoms of consolitis which I'd rather not deal with.

How many of you out there just bought Specilization books then reloaded to get your money back? Or learned Blood Mage then reloaded?

I dont understand how is it cheating?

Wouldn't that make it so that if you play the game again on the same profile you cheat as well? You know, since they are alsready unlocked.

It's the same thing as achievements in Mass Effect buffing your subsequent playthroughs. Once you've unlocked most of the achievements your new games are pretty easy.

Honestly I didn't even know about that or the armor upgrade trick until the end of my first time through =/

Anyways It's pretty useless... I got the ones I wanted and it only costs 22 gold or whatever.

Im not sure how it works.... but you can sell armor to a vendor and buy it back after saving and loading and it goes up a grade.

Wow. My bad. It's not the Raven's fault, then. I didn't realize once I unlock a spec in a previous playthru it was unlocked for all playthrus.

Wow, that was a ****ty design decision. It is possible to clear that between playthrus? Or am I just stuck with a house rule?

I downloaded the "Unlock All Specializations" mod when I had gotten all specializations except for Reaver and Assassin, I already know how to get them but I can't be bothered to go through that.

Just see unlocking a spec as a reward for finding the unlock, regardless of whether it's a book or something else you have to do. I don't see this as cheating either. With that said, it hardly matters since there's no gold shortage in this game; you should be able to buy every single buyable spec in your first complete game.

lol i know i am using gear which is just under the artifacts you can find in the better shops but i never had the gold to buy even one of them. having said that the only reason why i do not have that kind of cash are the limitations on back pack capacity and i have no desire to search areas for loot i could not take with me on the first run through.

more on topic i see no reason why buying specializations in a shop would be cheating ... you played for it one way or the other.

I barely consider it cheating since it is unlocked in all other playthroughs, its more getting around a stupid mechanic. Why should I have to gimp my first character when it comes to money when every character after that won't need to spend that money?

Nah, it's cheating. You should consider future unlocked specializations a New Game+ type of feature, not just the default of the game. Otherwise, whats the point of having to learn Blood Magic from a demon, for example, or any of the others?

It's only a "stupid mechanic" because you're assuming they should all be unlocked by default, when clearly having to find a mentor/manual suggests otherwise. If they did it intentionally, I'd guess it's so that in replays you have full freedom to try out weird specs without being constrained in who you choose to recruit, or how you choose to roleplay (since those choices alter what specs are available to you, without spoiling it...)

I "cheated" as well, but completely by accident (at least at first). I had about 16 gold by the time I reached my party camp for the first time. I went to the merchant, begrudgingly parted with 15 gold to buy the Shapeshifter book, then talked to Morrigan and realized that she would teach me Shapeshifter for free. Luckily I had an autosave from just before I left Lothering so I reloaded and was puzzled to see that at the end of the conversation with Morrigan it didn't say that Shapeshifter was unlocked again. So I went back to the merchant figuring I'd just have to bite the bullet and buy the book anyway and saw that it was no longer for sale. A little research later and I realized that once unlocked specializations stayed unlocked permanently and I happily went on my way with 15 extra gold jingling in my pocket. :3

Ever since then I've used that trick to unlock every specialization (notably the Blood Mage and Reaver) so that I can then play through the way I want to without having to worry about missing an unlockable.

My momma always told me that cheaters never win.

Honestly, why cheat in a video game? What is the point? Aren't you playing the game to have fun? To me, thats like the folks who buy leveling services and/or buy gold in MMO's. Why do they play at all, if someone else if going to do all the work for them?

oh well, to each his own.

lol, how are these 2 things even related? Paying people to level you on an MMO vs Reloading after purchasing an ingame item in a single player game to unlock the achievement only to enjoy the spec. I want what you're smoking, dude.

I certainly did. Money is far too tight in this game to play it any other way.

Well I suppose you could just buy the books, but that means not having any major gear bought. Fail.
