Who else "Cheated" when it came to unlocking Specializations?

That's like taking content out of the game...
I do love the game, but I think it's sad to see how most developers these days are pulling content OUT of games instead of adding value to the game. i guess it's because they want to treat us like junkies with their dlc crap. I know DAO is far from the worst case scenario but still you can feel this sad trend sneaking in everywhere (Like a certain quest giver in my camp who's really just a commercial for dlc.
Never in my life had i imagined that i would one day play a game where I would get the message; Agree to do the quest (buy & download dlc)
If this gets worse in the years to come I won't be paying for the games unless the price get's chopped in half (I pay for content, not for advertising)
End rant....

As it is I'm just playing with my House Rule not to use the Specs until I actually unlock them (but maaaannn... do I want to teach Champion to my lil city elf hottie). The + is annoying, too.
That's alright, I found a No Starting Abilities and No Auto-leveling NPCs mod on fileplanet this morning, so I can replace the Raven for my next playthru.

I dont understand how is it cheating?Shannara13 wrote...
How many of you out there just bought Specilization books then reloaded to get your money back? Or learned Blood Mage then reloaded?
Wouldn't that make it so that if you play the game again on the same profile you cheat as well? You know, since they are alsready unlocked.

It's the same thing as achievements in Mass Effect buffing your subsequent playthroughs. Once you've unlocked most of the achievements your new games are pretty easy.maul_inc wrote...
Unlocking the specials permanently sucks! I know I would miss having to do a quest or whatever right or in a certain way just because I found a specialization in my previous game.

Anyways It's pretty useless... I got the ones I wanted and it only costs 22 gold or whatever.

Wow, that was a ****ty design decision. It is possible to clear that between playthrus? Or am I just stuck with a house rule?

Just see unlocking a spec as a reward for finding the unlock, regardless of whether it's a book or something else you have to do. I don't see this as cheating either. With that said, it hardly matters since there's no gold shortage in this game; you should be able to buy every single buyable spec in your first complete game.
lol i know i am using gear which is just under the artifacts you can find in the better shops but i never had the gold to buy even one of them. having said that the only reason why i do not have that kind of cash are the limitations on back pack capacity and i have no desire to search areas for loot i could not take with me on the first run through.
more on topic i see no reason why buying specializations in a shop would be cheating ... you played for it one way or the other.

I barely consider it cheating since it is unlocked in all other playthroughs, its more getting around a stupid mechanic. Why should I have to gimp my first character when it comes to money when every character after that won't need to spend that money?
Nah, it's cheating. You should consider future unlocked specializations a New Game+ type of feature, not just the default of the game. Otherwise, whats the point of having to learn Blood Magic from a demon, for example, or any of the others?
It's only a "stupid mechanic" because you're assuming they should all be unlocked by default, when clearly having to find a mentor/manual suggests otherwise. If they did it intentionally, I'd guess it's so that in replays you have full freedom to try out weird specs without being constrained in who you choose to recruit, or how you choose to roleplay (since those choices alter what specs are available to you, without spoiling it...)

Ever since then I've used that trick to unlock every specialization (notably the Blood Mage and Reaver) so that I can then play through the way I want to without having to worry about missing an unlockable.

My momma always told me that cheaters never win.
Honestly, why cheat in a video game? What is the point? Aren't you playing the game to have fun? To me, thats like the folks who buy leveling services and/or buy gold in MMO's. Why do they play at all, if someone else if going to do all the work for them?
oh well, to each his own.
lol, how are these 2 things even related? Paying people to level you on an MMO vs Reloading after purchasing an ingame item in a single player game to unlock the achievement only to enjoy the spec. I want what you're smoking, dude.

Well I suppose you could just buy the books, but that means not having any major gear bought. Fail.
