Seriously, though, what is with their strange obsession with Brand?

Oh, that was really hard to read. Especially considering the fallout that's going to come whenever we get back to the presence. And yet again we've come across the stupid Hopewells. Why do they exist?

I see them as being like the acquaintances you have in high school or your freshman year of college that never really develop beyond their identities in high school or their freshman year of college. While Brand has moved on from being shallow and hedonistic, they haven't and they expect her to be up for what they're up for because she used to be. Plus now she's a hero and an Arlessa, so there's that appeal.

I like this chapter, there is something bright here dispite everything. I like how Anders comforts her, this is so sweet. Makes me hope for a very distant happy ending. Like going to the Deep Roads to die together.
Thanks!
Now I think I should start taking bets on how crappily it ends for everyone. When I planned the ending to the story, I actually did some overall relative happiness calculations, just to ensure I wasn't going to make anyone suicidal with the conclusion.

I hope those Hopewells are better than Voughan or they'll end up like him eventually. Imprisoned and stabbed by some angry elf.
They're more the type to cruise a tavern for a willing third than kidnap brides on their wedding day. They just want to have harmless fun.

Well they suck at it. Why hasn't Brand told them to stop sex-ambushing her when her life is falling apart?SurelyForth wrote...

Because she was drunk and they are spoilt nobles? I still hope they'll end up stabbed and robbed in some tavern. Ferelden will be better without headless banns, arls etc.
Anora must execute all nobles and assign new ones. Will solve all her problems. XD

See, I'm hoping that you've put them through all this CRAP so that the amazingly happy ending they get is worth all the effort. Really. Please?
Then, there is the other side of the coin, when you pull them down so incredibly low that even a slightly sucky ending like the one you hint at in that last chapter seems like a deliriously happy outcome for all parties because it could have been SO MUCH WORSE.
But as I said, I'm an optimist. I'm furiously writing my fics at the moment because I just want Anders to be happy, dammit! I'm even trying to inject implied Anders happiness into Shades, which isn't even ABOUT Anders.

You know, looking back at the chapter that seems pretty clear, most likely because it's no longer one in the morning...Sandtigress wrote...

They walked for several minutes, feet silent on dream ground, before they arrived at the edge of a clearing. Anders was stretched out on his back, wearing a plain grey robe ornamented only by an explosion of feathers at the shoulders. Bryce ran around in circles, leaping over Anders' legs and dodging hands that reached for him with mock urgency. Both were laughing at their game while Ser Pounce-a-lot, only Pounce the size of a mabari and wearing an elaborate silver saddle, looked on through half-lidded eyes that hinted at extreme watchfulness and apathy in equal parts."I shouldn't see this," Brand felt her eyes begin to burn.
It was too late.
"Brand! Come play," Bryce beckoned with his hands, pale and so like her own.
Without choosing it, she stepped into the clearing, her dress going gray as Anders' robes and lighter, too. She knelt next to Anders; Bryce came up to her, cupping her face between his hands and kissing her nose before snapping out orders. "Commander, I think you should try to grab me and I will escape."
"Commander?" This was both heartbreaking and amusing. She caught her son's chin and smiled down at him. "It's enough that I let you call me Brand. Commander just isn't happening."
Bryce collapsed against Anders in giggles, as if this was his plan all along. Anders pulled him closer and whispered
something into his ear.
"It could be worse," the child's eyes darted to Anders, who gave him a nod of encouragement. "It could be worse...Combrander."
And every compunction Brand had about intruding on her son's dream disappeared at that horrible joke delivered with precious devotion and a proud sideways glance to the man who'd given him it. She stretched herself out to lay besides Anders and she lost track of how long they played in that clearing, Bryce now dodging four legs and two sets of hands and occasionally getting captured and temporarily imprisoned between them.
After the fifth or sixth time Anders hauled their wriggling fugitive in, he stayed put, his eyes falling shut.
"Only you could get sleepy in a dream," Anders laughed and touched Bryce's head and then his hand found Brand's and they stayed there together, the three of them whole and at peace.
This is probably a trap and I just don't care.

Aww, you know how to make me smile from ear to ear: just put Anders and Bryce in one place and make them do/say something ridiculous. ^_____^ You made my day!

Bryce is just ridiculously adorable.I love that little short.
I really should tap into the awesome happy-making powers of Bryce/Anders (and Bryce/Pounce). I could do a series of adventure type stories that they make up together.

It might be too much fun, to be honest. They'd probably start out small scale, solving "mysteries" around the keep- what happened to Oghren's pants? Why is Garavel such a jerk (Bryce's theory, someone stole his blocks). Then it's swashbuckling and Bryce is running around saving damsels in distress with Anderseses dagger and asking for cookies as a reward.
No such thing as too much fun! DO EEEEEEEEEEEET! <3<3<3<3

*hop hop hop* I want an earring like Anders!
*draws on ear with marker* There you go!
True story- when my brother was three he wanted a tail, so he drew one with one of those hardcore permanent markers. I'll leave it up to ya'll's imaginations where he drew it, but my it rendered my mother completely incapable of doing anything besides laughing or facepalming for an entire evening.
