Pff, and you made it sound mandatory just because you have buddies to play with. Newsflash, not every single gamer has the same preferences or same level of accessibility you do because, I don't know, we have something called A LIFE. Last time I recalled, Resident Evil was mostly a single-player series and I felt that the co-op felt shoe-horned in, improvements over Outbreak be damned. For the "two characters" mechanics, I'd say the A.I. is slightly above Resident Evil 0, but that's not saying much since they do more harm than good on the higher difficulties.
