What's your favorite power in ME? My favorite is definitely Dominate, unless I'm on a geth mission, in which case I take Slam. It's especially funny if enemies with heavy weapons are present, cause they stay back and for some reason the enemy AI ignores them when you dominate them, so they just stand there and shoot other enemies in the back, but they are just shouting, "Heavy weapons!" and continue shooting the player. Hilariously funny. Often, the mercs with heavy weapons shoot themselves (how the hell do they manage to do that?), shout, "Heavy weapons!" and die. I always laugh my ass off when this happens.
The only real problem with Dominate is when you try to dominate Vanguards and Engineers, cause the NPC AI is re-evaluated when Dominate wears off and they will quickly try to recast Shields or Barrier. You need to recast Dominate real fast if you want to prevent this. As an adept with Cooldown upgrade the recharge time is very low (appr. 4 sec.), but it takes a second to leave the cover and cast the spell, so with vanguards you should recast the spell before it wears off, so that it is actually cast at the exact moment when it wears off, before the vanguard gets time to recast the barrier. Less problematic with engineers, cause they take more time to recast Shields. Timing is everything here.
Another problem with Dominate is that the AI is pretty stupid and enemies just follow their prescribed routines so even if dominated creatures or humans are nearby, they still continue to attack the player. Same problem with AI hacking, btw, consider the geth hunters on the Tali loyalty mission, you dominate a geth trooper, but the hunters ignore him, instead running towards your location, even if the dominated enemy is closer to them than Shepard's location.
If a heavy mech is present, like on the Kasumi mission, it gets real fun. Dominate is superior to AI Hacking, cause it takes hours to destroy the defenses of a heavy mech, it's far easier to destroy the barrier or shields of human enemies, the result is the same, the heavy mech will kill dominated enemies in no time, so you get rid of enemies anyway.
Since the cooldown time is so low, you can recast the spell as soon as the enemies destroy the barrier of the dominated enemy, you need to recast the spell often to give them a chance to survive, due to the barrier that is equipped when the spell is cast, a simple trooper can kill any number of enemies, even an elite commando or a heavy mech, if you time the spell casting properly - as soon as the barrier is down, you recast the spell and it's back to full strength!
