for the life of me Ive been unable to find the key
you need in the keep basement.

Any advice appreciated. I hopes it not in that mine in the winding woods
as ive done that and the enterance seems blocked now.

There are 4 keys.
Three of them are in the deep roads area you explore on your second trip into the basement.
One of them is in a sarcophagus within the crypt room itself where the door is.
The Key of Kiveal, which seems to be the one you are looking for, is the one there in that room, so loot around and you will find it.
