I played ME2 recently and thought it was a great game. However, i hadn't previously played ME1, so i decided to play that so i could then use that character for playing through ME2 again. Unfortunately, when i select import character after choosing a new game in ME2, i just get a blank list. I've only finished ME1 an hour ago, then reinstalled ME2, so maybe there's some file i need to move around. I'd be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Did you by any chance run the launcher and choose the option to "Import ME1 Save Game" (or something along those lines)? The in-game importing won't display the ME1 import unless the character file is in your Documents\\\\Bioware\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\Save\\\\ME1 directory. The import option in the launcher will automatically create the directory for your ME1 character.
