My cable connection went out and i had to reboot my modem and router to get back online. I was literally minutes away from finalizing my mod that i have been working on all week.

I have been using the toolset fine for a while. When i opened the toolset this morning, i am getting the cannot connect to database error. I suspect that this has to do with the reset of my net connection (though i don't see why -- but the toolset freaked out literally right afterward.)

I have been reading the threads i could find on the issue but i can't even *connect* so most of the time i can't even complete their steps.

- I tried the italian troubleshooting thread:
http://mmo-colosseum...b6386a17e76#p55

couldn't even get past step 1 because it would not connect to my database:

Image IPB

i tried going through the toolset config and testing the database connection:

Image IPB

so i tried to do a backup:

http://social.biowar...er_Installation

Image IPB

Tried to backup the database as per instructions on the Wiki

My system info:

game & toolset up to date (1.3, 1.0.1)
win 7 64bit
no firewalls that i am aware of (i have disabled anything that i could find that might be interfering)

can anyone link me more ideas or give me some advice?

I have tried most of what i have found on the message boards (providing they were written after the latest toolset edition was released).

Is there any reason why this would happen after rebooting my network? =/

Reinstalled the toolset without reinstalling over my database. Didn't help. I suppose there's nothing i can do again.... oh well. i guess it only wastes a few dozen hours.

edit:
why can't i just copy & paste the bw_dragonage_content.bak? =/

Did you verify the SQL Server service is actually running? Check in the Task Manager on the services tab, Services button and in the window which opens see if "SQL Server" service says to be "Started".

SQL isn't running at all. i tried turning it on via the SQL server configuration manager, and it wouldn't turn on.

Image IPB

is there another way to turn it on?

edit:
i tried to turn it on via the Services system as described here. However it immediately rejected it and gave me the following error message:

"Windows could not start the SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET) service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
Image IPB
so if it can't find the file, that would make me think that either it is:
- permissions/access problems
- the path is incorrect somewhere (though i have checked and it seems fine)

Do you have the latest Visual C + + packages?

http://www.microsoft...bf-9350143d5867

Also those SQL drivers might need updating

http://www.microsoft...DisplayLang=en8

I'm afraid, that's not that simple, but sometimes it just happens like that.

Well everything was working fine until this morning. I lost connection, and rebooted my router, and bam. Can't connect. I don't think the problem could be Visual C++ or SQL drivers really but i will look into it. =/

Could be some of those service's rights/dependancies. Heck, once I couldn't connect to Disc Management of my own comp.

Yep I am nearly certain it is a rights/access issue. however, i ran across something mysterious:

Image IPB

if you notice the file that it is looking for: sqlservr.exe but it is not in the destination folder unless i am quite oblivious (which is not impossible for me)

how this file could mysteriously go missing for no reason, i have no clue! i wonder if any other files up an vanished suddenly. this is worrisome, needless to say.

Hmmm... you have a 64 bit system running a 32 bit proggie. So far so good, but where's the actual sqlservr.exe in your OS? Have you tried pointing out the actual path to the executable manually?

Also, that dll is from 2008. Did you reset your router's hardware firewall/set the exceptions?
Did you check the event log in My Computer => Right click => Manage? (Or running compmgmt.msc or eventvwr.msc)

And stranger it becomes. So tried to reinstall the SQL drivers. it would not let me select the DAODB stuff for this game's database. In fact, it came up with errors;

Image IPB

if you notice what is highlighted in red, this is incorrect despite me putting in the correct paths. it should be Program Files (x86), but even so, Cache\\*.msi is missing entirely.

it seems odd to me truly that i have had the toolset working for so long and suddenly it should come down to this sort of strange SQL error that is preventing me from even doing a simple backup. I don't know what could have triggered it, and i don't know if it's even worth bothering with further.. =/

I'm on the thin ice here, since I've got just 32 bit WinXP running atm. It seems to say "To proceed, run the Service Pack Setup program for the x86 programs instead". That implies, there's one existing.

this is the problem -- i seem to no longer have sqlservr.exe on my system, and despite reinstalling SQL, it does not show up.

no, i didn't set up exceptions in my firewall -- i dont remember doing that last time so i will have to look into it tomorrow after my classes.

I didn't see an event log in the Services and eventvwr.msc is not running either.

=(

Since you're running the 64-bit win7, i'd try to uninstall the Toolset/SQL Server that comes bundled with it, then re-install just the Toolset itself and then separately the 64-bit version of SQL Express 2008 which you can get from Microsoft website for free.

Was running this combination without any issues, and i'd hope the more up-to-date SQL performs more reliably with the more modern OS.

You can likely make a database backup first, and then restore that rather than the default one. How to do that exactly i have no idea, but i think there's a page in DA Builder wiki which describes that. Hopefully.

Yeah -- that's what i tried earlier in the first post. i followed everything in the wiki with no luck at all.

Update: uninstalling everything and reinstalling as usual fixes the problem and restored the missing sqlservr.exe from the Binn folder.

And, lost my work from the past few days (i have a backup but it's older). if only the toolset would do automatic backups when it closes. :pinched:

Glad you got that fixed. The bright side is, now things will be done probably faster.

Looks like I'm not the only one that was having problems.
