I started to wonder about this recently.
All the vids showing the rescue of Ashley or Kaiden are with the bomb.
But if you sent the one you want to save with the Salarians, can you go to where they are instead of going back to the bomb?
Can the Squadmember Rescue be done at the "other" location?

From my experience it doesnt matter who you send where. So if you sent kaiden with the salarians and you decide to go there, ashley dies. And the other way around.

You can either end the mission at the bomb location, or up at the AA-gun tower, depending on who you sent where, and who you choose to save.
I think there is only a cut-scene for when the person you leave is with the bomb, otherwise you just get dialogue during the end mission fight (they get cut-off mid radio chatter).

If you save the person with the Salarians, you also save the Salarians. Other than some warm fuzzies, this also means you can grab some very nice gear from their quartermaster (make sure to visit before the forced trip back to the Citadel.)

You save the Salarians if you save the person with the bomb as well. I thought it would be better if the Salarians were only saved if you went to the AA tower, but that's not the case.
Saren's confrontation with Shepard looks cooler on the AA tower, though.

I always had the Salarians with me anyway, at least temporarily.
I don't think it matters where they are or who's with them.
It looks like with 20 Salarians around, all the enemies target Kaidan instead.
Remind me to ask Kirrahe if Kaidan was doing something incredibly stupid......

You can save the person at either location, but most (I think) prefer to rescue the person at the AA towers because the cut-scenes are a lot cooler, (confrontation with Saren, and the person you left dying)

Saving the salarians I believe is accomplished by doing the little things to help them on your way to the lab. For example, to save Kirrahi(sp?) you have to destroy the comm tower.
I agree with whoever said the Saren confrontation was cooler on the tower.

Just curious: what's the confrontation like if you do it in the other location?
I imagined since there's no where to hide it would've been like a Mexican standoff (which would have been pretty awesome).

The confrontation scene is almost exactly the same as the AA towers confrontation, except with...water and stuff I guess. But the deal breaker (for me at least), is when Saren holds Shepard up in his one-armed choke, thing, in contrast to the AA towers where he holds you over a plummetting ledge, he holds you over an, at most, 2 foot ledge; not very dramatic...
