Easy Format:
Best: Dwarf Noble
Reason: Love the culture; compelling and dramatic story; sets a great mood
Worst: City Elf
Reason: Bland beggining; doesn't feel realistic; rushed into Gray Wardens but don't feel purpose; trouble connecting with character

I've only played one so far, but I doubt that I'll enjoy anything as much as I enjoyed the Dwarf Noble. That was just hilarious.

It depends on how you see it, City Elf Origin was good, but mainly if you played a female, the male one feels a bit more rushed.
For me.
Best: Human Origin Male
Reason: I still think its one of the more dark origin stories, and personally I felt more attached to my character after that, and with the dog aswell
Worst: Dalish
Reason: I think the dalish Origin is alittle more boring, its all about the cave, towards the end of the origin it gets good though.

Really? City Elf Origin was different for female? I did feel the male one was rushed.....

Also I heard that the human origin was much better than people anticipated... A lot of people also seem to be eating up the mage origin.

Dalish elf origin wasn't overwhelmingly interesting. Not complaining about it, but I'm sure some of the other origins are more involving.

Seems both Elf origins aren't overwhelmingly interesting. I mean city elf... You don't really explore the Alienage that much- next thing you know it's a standard "fight" through a dungeon. Meh.

I loved the dwarf commoner start. I played it as a dwarven male rogue, and out of the four origins that I've tried I think that must've been the best one. They made a great job actually making it *feel* as you were playing one of the downtrodden.
I agree that Dalish Elf seems the least interessting. There's not a lot of substance to it at all. It kind of feels like a "Random Adventurer Template" - which is cool if you're into that kind of thing. Any race and character could've been exploring a mystic ruin. I just wanted to get the feeling of actually being Dalish - which is something I felt that origin failed at accomplishing.

Hrmm...I'd have to say...
Best: Human Noble.
Reason: Most believable reason for becoming a grey warden. Interesting all around.
Worst: Dalish Elf
Reason: Seemed too bland and rushed. Nothing really interesting.

i've only played as the male city elf and i agree about the rather boring intro...i mean it wasn't bad...but i would definately be happy if the others have more substance to them

Oh this is easy for me.
Best: Dwarf Noble Female
Reason: Amazing origin, gets you really involved and loving the dwarves right from the word go. You also get to spend some quality time with the best non-permanent NPC in the ENTIRE game... being far better then all of the perma-NPC's as well. Also has different endings to the origin.
Worst: Dalish Elf (any)
Reason: Very convoluted 'forest' with a very singular path that leads to the cave and you still have to 'guide' people there. Just overall a boring origin in my opinion.
Sneaking in a second best: City Elf (female) or Human Noble (female). Can't decide. Both excellent as well.

I play a City Elf (female), and I didn't have any trouble to get into the story. I liked the origin, and found the reason why you become a gray warden convincing enough.
I have yet to play the other origins though.

Got to agree with JoeBPlenty on the Dwarf Noble female origin. Very, very good one!
Then comes:
- Human noble (f/m)
- Dalish (f/m)
- Dwarven (all)
- City elf (all)
- Mages (hate pansy mages!)
Then comes:

The dwarf commoner origin made me care about my character and his family, had convincing reasons for joining the Grey Wardens and once you return... heartbreaking.
Didn't like the dalish one, too 'normal RPG'.

Dwarf Noble ( Male/Female ) - Both are great, the Female one really gets you to see Gorim in a different light, and the reunion in Denerim is just to cute, however, in the Male one, he ends up being just as powerful a character, due to his loyalty, and how he acts towards you. Add in the intrigue, the politicking, and the ending, and this was the best hands down.
City Elf ( Male ) - I put this higher then the Female City Elf just due to immersion factors, both are good, yes, and both draw you in, but the Male one just felt more real to me, and I was much more easily immersed on my Male Warrior CE then I was with my Female CE, which is saying something considering I AM female.
Dwarf Commoner ( Either ) - I felt like I was scum, they managed to capture this much better with the Dwarf Commoner then they did with the City Elves really, and it helped with immersion a ton, the storyline wasn't that amazing, but the atmosphere made up for it quite well.
Mage ( Either ) - I only put this up here because of the little section after you defeat the Rage Spirit, I felt this was very well done, and it really showed me how dangerous the Fade actually was, my mage was first character, and I still had the "Be good to everyone" approach beaten into me, it was surprising to see that end up turning against me. However, the rest of it was well, medocire to be honest, it felt like I was babysitting an idiot Duncan, then babysitting two really idiotic children.
City Elf ( Female ) - The wedding felt tacked on, and my character barely even noticed it was there, the fighting in the Keep was just hilariously out of place, and the rescue attempt felt tacked on really, it wasn't a BAD Intro, it just kept breaking the immersion with little things that were not a problem in the Male Intro.
Human Noble ( Either ) - Really cliche, I can't say I was expecting what happened, but it didn't do anything for me, after it was over, there was no rage towards the big baddie, I didn't really care, and could easily put him as one of the last villains on my list, all the other Intros invoked some kind of emotion, Rage towards Bhelen, Hatred towards the Arls son in the City Elf, surprise and confusion from the Mage, with the end of this one however, I felt nothing. I mean, really, the only thing good about this intro is the very ending, and thats because it ties you into being a Grey Warden very easily, however this isn't really a good thing, as the Dwarf Noble tie in is still ten times better.
Dalish Elf ( Either ) - I hate Elves to begin with, so maybe I'm biased, but this Intro just felt rushed, and could barely hold my interest, the story was extremely linear, and did little to hide it, the environments were fairly boring, my allies could have perma-died and I would not have blinked, and the story it told was just eh, and my joining of the Grey Wardens just forced me to suspend belief to do it.

Dwarf Noble is by far the best, in my opinion. I think it even worked better as a female, because... Gorim!... but it was good for guys, too, because it's just that good. I never expected to like dwarves so much. I also thought it gave you the best option for joining the Grey Wardens- Casteless and Human Noble were close seconds, but Dwarven Noble: it was all that was left for you. It also gave you a very satisfying tie in later returning to the city- yes, that's sort of true with all of the origins when you meet those of your past, but that one was very powerful, I thought. And even though I did actually predict what would happen (during the quiet conversation with Gorim, your character, and your brother, I basically told my friend, as a joke, what I bet would happen, due to Bioware's love for curveballs- and woo, I was right, for like, once!), it was somewhat surprising considering how such stories usually go.
Close behind it is the Dwarf Commoner. It was just well written, and everything seemed lead in to nicely.
I haven't played Dalish, but I gather I'm probably going to be disappointed.

I really liked the female city elf actually..didn't feel rushed at all but very urgent and totally f*d up.
Dwarf Noble is pretty good but damn...theres lots of walking around and loading areas all the time. I had the game installed on some crappy hdd (just moved it) and it would take like 5 minutes to load a room that I didn't need to be in haha. Anyway, that doesn't matter but it was kind of lame to be stripped of all my posessions!!!! Maybe I can get them back after I go there again or something.. That is a pretty cool part actually, to have to go back where you were banished from but I guess its probably the same for all origins

That's weird.. most seem to think the Dalish Elf story is the yucky one.. but it's the only one I've played and I thought it was really good. I played it as a female rogue.. I have no idea if that makes any difference. Maybe it just has to do with what type of character you enjoy playing with the most and what origin you originally started with. The first play through is obviously going to stand out the most.

The Human Noble origin, whilst somewhat cliche, is my favorite thus far. I've tried several other origins but I felt most connected to my noblemen Warrior. Haven't tried the Dwarves yet, so that should be interesting.
I'm playing as an evil Mage now. Greatly disapointed with the Origin story for the mages though. Playing babysitter is not my idea of epic. It would have been awesome to start out as one of the hunted blood mages.

A lot of people apparently consider the city elf origin to be unrealistic. I don't. Considering what a crappy ****g world this is for the elves, then this is rather realistic. Heck, in a lot of countries in the medieval ages, on the first night of a marriage, the resident noble would be allowed to be with the bride before the groom. And this was considered pretty normal. The City Elf origin is pretty much a mixture of that peculiarity of medieval times, and then of the blatant racism aimed at elves in this game. (Even when you leave the Alienage. When you meet the quartermaster in Ostagar, he pretty much yells at you for slacking off until he realises that you're the Grey Warden.)
My favourite origin: City elf. Blatant racism leading to a revolt? Yessir!
My least favourite: Dalish. "Oh hai, we has ruins, go take a look"

I actually enjoyed Dalish Elf. Apparently I'm odd. Almost tempted to change my picture to my Dalish Elf character to rally up support.
I enjoyed the Elf Mage one as well, however it is second to the Dalish one, but now I'm tempted to touch a a Dwarf just to check out the hype of the origin stories.
Note: I noticed humans only get one unique Origin story as well.
