the city elf was a very good origin, it avoided every Bioware cliche where the human noble was just a pile of every Bioware cliche from previous games.
It made sense for my city elf to become a grey warden. The family history justifies Morgan's interest, and further in the origin and my character's actions at the end sealed the deal since he showed his worth to Morgan.
I really felt attachement to the friends and relatives of the city elf where I actually wanted to stab my own father in the noble origin for constantly insulting my character with the name pup.

I've only played the female city elf. I can understand people saying it felt rushed, but I disagree that it was a bad thing. It was supposed to be a bit of a rush--"Wait, I'm getting married *today*?" My only complaint was that after later events I didn't really feel like my character had a great reason to continue on the whole Gry Warden quest "thing." She's not the heroic type.
While the urgency was kind of good, it was ruined by the lack of caring your character felt towards her own wedding, which, even if you didn't want to do, I think you would care quite a bit about, and then again by how she responds to the situations she is given.
To top it all off then, the whole Castle fight just felt drawn out, and didn't have much feeling to it at all, it didn't have any kind of feeling of heroic rescue, it felt more like I was being forced through "just because" rather then any sort of urgant rescure, wheras for the male elf, you FEEL like you are going to save them, you FEEL like your a part of it, your SCARED about yor wedding, and have no idea how to handle it, and it shows in how you react towards other people.
Also, with the male elf, you have a good reason to join the Wardens, as the female elf, it felt more like my Origin got tacked on due to how the male elfs story would have ended, rather then it being me choosing my own path or anything like that.

It drew me into the story, made me feel attached to the character, and even influenced my actions later on. It felt so good to get back Bhelen. It even influenced my final decision in the Orzammar section of the game, when I realized what any patriotic dwarf would do (although it ruined my intentions of this being a 'goody-goody' playthrough.).
The Harrowing was the nifiest part of the Mage origin.
I agree I would like an alternate Mage origin, mainly because Mages are the most interesting to build from scratch from a gameplay perspective but I would like to have different origins each time.

City Elf (F): I went into this expecting my character to have some bloodlust and thought it played out fairly well, especially since you get to finish it properly
Mage: The only reason this isn't ranked higher than Human Noble is because I like Human Noble less. There weren't many redeeming characteristics for me. I don't generally play a very religious character and in this it seemed you were either a zealot or a monster.
Human Noble (F): Worst so far because it feels so disconnected. I was looking to try to make her a power hungry heiress, but the storyline doesn't account for that. It also didn't give me the opportunity for retribution like CE(F) did.

I didn't really enjoy Dalish or mage though, found both of them pretty bland and cliché.

Reason: Great storyline, LOVE the relationship with Gorim (with both male and female pc)
Worst: I found the Mage origin pretty boring.
One thing I was really disappointed with in the dwarf noble origin is how much potential there was to being able to add Gorim into your party later on but they just completely threw him off to the side. I mean he was so loyal to you (especially female pc), he should be able to join. I think that would be an awesome DLC. Have Gorim be a new companion and also make it that you could pursue a relationship with him. I mean the dwarves need their dwarven love! Bioware, don't ignore that Gorim potential!

Human Noble - My first and wanted revenge as much as my character!
Dwarf Commoner - Your sister is basically a **** and you have to accept it. This origin just made me feel guilty, powerless and trust into an impossible situation.
Worst:
Daelish - Kinda boring...
The others were good. Yes, I tried them all before truly starting the game hehehe!

City elf: Interesting, you can get a very anti-human character and not feel strained.
Dwarf Commoner: Also Interesting, having the bottom of the dwarven culture come out on top was nice.
Dalish elf: Wasn't that bad, but I didn't really get a feeling of dislike for the humans from it.
Mage: Kinda drawn out, didn't really enhance the characters backstory for me. Like somebody else said it was more about Jowan.
Dwarf Noble: Blah for me. Predictable, and I disliked how suddenly the most liked prince has no allies and the 'honorable and noble' dwarf that is in your party before you go to meet Duncan just turns away from you.
Somebody said something about getting back for the human noble origin, you do get the chance. Its near endgame, but it is there.

I did like the Dalish origin! I liked all the Elf gods lore and really liked the end. I sort of fought joining the wardens - but before that it was a tad meh. I enjoyed it well enough, but my favorite has to be the city elf female.

Worst? The Jowan origin.

Edit: Really it just annoys me that an honorable dwarf would lie after you can be rather nice to him. I hope if I play a dwarf noble I get the chance to go back and kill him for the betrayal.

Easily the worst is any mage. Basically your only claim to fame is you’re an A+ student and that you’re friends with someone who has a serious problem. Not really a great opening story for a main character of a story. The player mage’s story pales in comparison to every party member mage including Jowen’s and Wynne’s.
The Dwarf noble has been great so far and shows promise but I haven’t finished it yet.
The human noble was OK, but only if it doesn’t end at Ostrigar. If so, then it is a bit too disconnected from the main story than it should be (the 1st conversation with the king was awkward considering the situation).

Heh. You want awkward? "I'm here cause I murdered the Arl's son for raping my cousin"
Has to put King in a weird spot.

The Human noble was my first.. it just seems to me so far to be the most engaging. All the others just sort of dump you into combat from the get go. For the dalish its straight into the ruins and the fade for the mage, and for the dwarf noble its basicly off to the Arena, then off to the deep road... well it was for me at any rate.
I felt some actual attachment to the people in the Human noble origins, which I found I didnt in the others. I did however like the fact even though ive done the dwarves treaty in my first game as a human noble, I still didnt really expect the betrayles in the dwarf noble origin, which was nice.
And finally getting to trounce arl Howle 50 hours latter was rather satisfying... even though he was a little easy.

I've only done it with a female so far, but now I'm going to have to play through it again with a male character; I just didn't see what you're saying, so now I'm curious if there's a real difference between the two or if it's just a result of gender-stereotype baggage throwing different implications into the same scenario.
Dalish origin... honestly, looked like it was ripped off almost verbatim from a PnP D&D session my old group played once, when the DM had to come up with a way to 'railroad' an evil party into doing the heroic quest on the fly.
