I cannot start mass effect 1. I keep getting an error message

OutOfMemory MallocLarge(size=472190976, type= 4096, protect=4,VM534667264/2147352576)

Raise Exception() Address=0x7c812afb(filenamenotfound)
CxxThrowException() Address=0x78158e89(filename not found)
GMatrix2d::Swap() Address=0x10da7983 (filename not found)
Address=0xe8781b4c (filename not found)

This may be a newbie problem but I'm wondering if the program is looking to start from another place than where it was installed?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also just got a General Protection Error. I have applied both patches as well.
