Loved the Mako. Driving it was fun, easy (at least for me, on PC) and cliffs were almost a non-issue if you used your map properly and found a nice and perfectly drivable path to your objective. The paths were there, but I imagine many people missed them, because they took the straightforward approach to their destination, regardless of terrain.

The story missions were even better and I must agree with OP, Mako WAS the seventh party member, dearly missed in ME2.

Yes, I liked the MAKO. I only had two problems associated to it. First the landscape which was sometimes frustrating to drive through and second that kills made by MACO earned less XP so I always ended up killing enemies myself (which can get really interesting in a new insanity game :) ). But the overall view of MAKO is that is was a perfect part of the game, useful (like connecting it to the turret generator), fun to drive and still do not get it why it is not in ME2. And no, thas BS called Hammerhead is far from being another MAKO.

The X57 was somewhat good - the environments were created with Mako in mind, but that could not be said about the rest of the game.

Not saying Mako was all bad, but it was not good either. All playthroughs after the first one were made much more painful thanks to all those crazy planets.

Hammerhead seems to fix many problems of the Mako, but its not perfect - it needs fixed gun (not hating missiles, but those things should be more powerful and limited per mission).

I loved the Mako. It was relaxing to drive around picking stuff up after all of the fighting. I didn't mind the driving controls, I was able to cope with them rather fine. I wish I had it in ME2, Hammerhead is alright but I like the Mako better (originals are better, that's what I go by)

I didn't exactly love the Mako, but it was tons better than the hover-mario-cart thing they gave us now. The levels for the Mako were pretty linear as well, at least the plot relevant ones, but the Firewalker is just one ridiculous tube after another. I felt like a tapeworm...

Combat was way better with the Mako, too. At least there was some aiming involved. An autistic monkey could hit targets with the Hammerhead...

It wasn't perfect, but it was better than the "improvement".

Despite occasional hissy fits involving mountains, the mako and bioware employees, I actually did like the mako and the planetory exploration element.

I was mostly a fan of the sense of scale the Mako gave the universe especially on Ilos and Novaria driving to the facility and though the "tombs" was fantastic and I think Mass Effect 2 missed out in this respect, getting driven somewhere is no substitute for doing it yourself. The side missions were less good fewer and more varied would have been preferable it think Bring down the sky had the right format for a side mission. A few mainly exploration mission on their own would have been good without getting too repetitive.

Firewalker is a more fun vehicle to drive but the missions didn't really play to its strengths it was fast but you never needed to go fast just some pseudo-platforming with dodgy combat, why didn't it have a HUD, secondary weapon or shield. Still I think the vehicle had potential.

I HATED the Mako itself and driving the thing, but I loved the planet exploration and missions.

They should have mako like planets and missions, but with the Hammerhead as the vehicle. hopefully there will be more substantial Hammerhead missions in DLC expansion or the next game, as the Firewalker seemed more an introduction to get used to it.

I didn't mind the mako. Hated the steep mountains or getting caught in those dragons teeth.

I wonder whose bright idea it was to design a moon buggy when a majority of the planets are unweathered rocky mountains.

Bioware only tried to emulate what science started.
Damn science and its constant overbearing nature in Sci-Fi.

Never mind the mass effect fields. Let's use something that was discovered ages ago!

Please learn what words make up the term Sci-Fi.
Then tell me which word would apply to mass effect fields.

I'm in the middle of a replay of ME1, and the Mako is not that bad as some people make it to be, but is not good either.

Most of the fault is on the terrain design, and how useless it is for fighting (it still beats the Hammerhead and it's paper armor), you're better of getting off and fight stuff on foot.

I'd still love a standalone Mako game. Upgrades, larger/more varied maps, add indigenous creatures/enemies to each planet along with the usual pirates/mercs etc.

I know it'd probably sound lame but the plot could just be about a survey team exploring an uncharted sector of the galaxy who end up chasing a Macguffin across planets for whatever reason.

(Yeah I post this in every Mako-related thread. Not that I expect it to happen, I'm just a Mako fanboy :P)

The Mako itself was fun, that car was crazy! It was like a cat, always landing on its feet. However I think it was a bit over-used, exploration and resource scanning became tedious real quick because the enviroments were always the same, one anomaly, one debris, one resource node... Combat was a little clumsy as well, I think the Hammerhead in ME2 tripled the fun of Mako in that aspect.

Regardless, driving around with Mako was fun and I hope they'll have something similar in ME3.

I like to use the Mako as a shield and portable cover for more experience points :D

The real Mako-related tragedy is that neither Garrus or Tali commented on Shepard's driving in ME2.

Fighting while driving the thing was fun. The maneuverability was sort of bad, but you couldn't topple the thing over and, quite frankly, some planets' landscapes were a lot more annoying than the vehicle itself.

I'll take B if just for the fact that 99% of the ancillary assignments consisted of driving around.

I loved the Mako despite its flaws.

It only needed a few tweaks to be brilliant.  ( Mainly, a little less bouncy and a forward turbo boost to get up the mountains. )

Mako was great, but overused. If we could have it only on missions (ilos, virmire etc.) and occasionally in some other places - everything would be better. But when 95% of it's usage (and game...) was just driving around boring planets - that's definitely not good. Real pain in the ass when i need to end this game few times more than i already did.

I like mako driving. Not because it's great if used too often, but because it brings diversity in the gameplay. In ME3 I hope they have both, mako and shuttle, not because needed, but because make the gameplay more varient.

Love the Mako. I miss roving over planets, shooting up Heretics and Humans alike, looking for resorces etc etc.

I liked it, it mixed things up a bit and made the world seem bigger. I think most of the hate it gets would be better directed at how repetitive and tedious some of the uncharted worlds were(although even those were beautiful at times), rather than the vehicle itself. It was just fine in the linear story missions.

I have no issues with the Mako itself.

It's the planets that killed it.

Every. Damn. Uncharted. World. Has. ~89. Degree. Cliffs

My gawd I hated that so much. Because pretty much every planet lands you with a sheer cliff between you and the objective.
