Hello,

I need some help with a character build. I want to make a Dalish elf archer. But my question is now where dot start?
My own foughts was first rogue and then ranger. but someone can help me with this a bit more. So my question is to you is my own thought on the archer a good idea? and what skills should I choose and which perks?

If you want to go archer I wouldnt mix with any other style.

I would go bard and ranger for archer, songs will help your archer a lot, dont see assasin or duelist being viable.

as for stats that depends on whether your taking lethality for dex/cun or going dex/str.

I usuaully go dex/str for 9 levels to wear stat items later in the game then dex/cun after that, other people may do archers differently.

I have a Dalish elf too. I'm using the short bow you get in the origin. It works great!

There are parts where I couldn't resist pulling out a dagger and backstabbing.

I use Duelist spec myself, as the offensive/defensive Talent can be maintained with a ranged weapon. And as there are frequent occasions which call for melee, the bonuses there are helpful, too.

The first Assasin skill is always nice, and if you do a heavy cunning build you likely won't be able to sustain Song of Courage, Aim, and a pet with stamina left over for scatter/arrow of slaying, let alone use supressing fire.

Stealth+Scattershot is a beautiful thing.

Only level strength high enough to wear the armors you want and leave that till later.
I put loads into dex and some into cunningly mostly.

then it turned out that my archer happened to be fantastic at melee combat too as he rarely gets hit. So I use both. It got a tad annoying having to keep clicking people every time I dodged an attack of theirs while using bow.

Scatter shot is awesome and arrow of slaying helps you take down the bigger guys fast.

I use assassin and duellist spec. Assassin one is more useful, the ability to mark targets and then shoot at them is a nice mix.

Focus on the Ranger talents as you fill out your Archer talents all the way through. Bard is a great 2nd specialization. Get enough cunning to persuade, and enough str for decent medium armor (24 should be fine), and pump the rest in dex. And, because of that, ditch the shortbow and pick up a longbow as soon as possible, since that will benefit the most from dex. Get scattershot as soon as you can, because once you reach the level where you can use it, your opponents will be able to as well, and most certainly will use it on your party. Do onto them before they do onto you.

The wolf is probably your best companion, once you get Dire Wolf he adds some serious dps and crowd control (with Dire Howl).

I leveled my first character (as shown in my profile pic) up to 24 as a Dalish Ranger/Bard, and I enjoyed it a lot.

Had the same build as Thorbecke for my Dalish Elf as well, personally I think it is the best one for Origins... if you import the end game archer into Awakenings, prepare yourself for an outrageous damage dealer, archer in Awakenings is very powerful, almost godly.

I'd get one stealth if you want to kill a pesky mage. And Shattering shot if you want to kill pesky armoured guys.

Dalish archers are my favorites (I think I've played 4 of them so far)!

I tend to pick talents/skills based on what I think a wandering forest hunter would have, so: all Archer talents, the 1st dual wield talent, and Stealth (up to Combat Stealth). For skills, a couple pts. in Coercion (it's a Bioware game!), full Survival, 1pt each in Poison-making (free) and Herbalism, and leftover skill points go to Traps. Ranger and Bard for specs. 20 STR to equip the best light armor, 34 DEX to equip the best bows, the rest in Cunning. I do put points into Deft Hands--I rationalize that anyone who's mechanically inclined enough to make sophisticated traps could definitely figure out how to pop locks, but a purist probably wouldn't agree!

This is more of a roleplaying build, though: if you're looking to squeeze every last bit of damage out of the character that you can, this ain't the build for you!
