I went more into depth into this and then inadvertently started a flamewar between a couple of Tali fans and a Zaeed fan. Almost like they are diametrically opposed for some reason.

Well the whole Zaeed vs. Tali situation is pretty much Realism vs. Romaticism really. Because as you suggested, the only reason why Tali was in the sqaud was to be the feel-good-factor admist an otherwise rathering depressing team. The paragon two-shoes needs someone sweet and innocent to feel good about, and there she is. They fail to see that Tali will be more of a liability than anything on this team. She's not emotionally and idealistically ready for a mission of this caliber.

What really disgusted me was that the Tali fans used the Zaeed fan's loyalty to attack him. It was a discussion about Tali, yet they wanted to gang up on the Zaeed fan, so they decided to bring Zaeed into a discussion which he had otherwise no business to be in with, and repeatedly attacked Zaeed just to get to the Zaeed fan. How typical of em goddamn heroes. *Rolls eyes*

I think this whole hating a character because of his/her fanbase is not entirely unfair though. Tali is a character I can stand, but otherwise wouldn't pay much attention to, but her fanbase are constantly reminding others of the "supposed" good qualities of her character: innocence, sweetness and inadeptability, which is the very qualities I despice in a character that does what she does, and it ended up magnifying all the things I dislike about her.

You want to dislike Zaeed for being gritty and hardcore? That's fine. But saying Zaeed is less cool than Kasumi because he can't cloak on jump on a chopper is like saying Dirty Harry is a sh*tty movie because he didn't drive a spaceship. You don't like it? Your choice. But coolness will ALWAYS be coolness.

I like Zaeed and Tali, and yes I'm one of those creepy crazy tali culitsts that everyone loves to hate (I guess)
