Looking through this thread, I must say, whoever came up with the "free" Day One DLC scam is a genius.
You see so many people going "Well, some of the DLC isn't really worth it... but then again I got so and so DLC for FREE when I bought the game. That must mean Bioware is good, right?"
Yeah, how incredibly generous of Bioware to give you part of the game you paid for for free. I mean, when I buy a six-pack, and they give me the sixth can FOR FREE, that's when I know I'm getting a deal!
It's gotta be the easiest time ever right now for the gaming industry when you can chop up games, sell half of it for full price, and then release some of the parts of the other half for free and other parts for an inflated cost. And instead of being outraged, the consumers will thank you and happily fork over their money because we have to support Bioware, they're so generous giving us so much DLC for free!
Again, the "free" DLC is not free. It's part of the game you already paid for. Saying that it's free is like saying when you buy a bottle of water, they give you the water inside the bottle for free. No, you paid for that water when you bought the bottle... of water.
The "free" Day One DLC is a scam, a sleazy practice intended to stamp out the secondhand game market. It's completely outrageous, especially as you don't see this happening in any other industry. I mean, people buy clothes secondhand. That's unacceptable. Clearly we should put chemicals inside clothing that cause them to break down when people stop wearing them. People buy furniture secondhand. Unacceptable. We should put explosives into furniture that destroy them when people try to sell them. People buy books secondhand. Unacceptable. We should burn all books once people have read them.
I hate secondhand retailers like Gamestop as much as anyone, and I'm actually in favor of supporting companies, such as Bioware, firsthand by purchasing their games, but practices like this Day One DLC scam is not the way to go. The Day One DLC is basically Bioware saying "if you can't get it from us, you can't get it from anyone", and that's completely selfish and a huge slap in the face to consumers.
