Femshep romanced Kaidan in ME1, and Garrus in ME2. Sorry, but between the one who calls you a traitor and throws a hissy feat and the one who has your back no matter what - the choice is clear. By the way, I do not consider it "cheating", as Kaidan had clearly indicated that we are not in relationship anymore. "Maybe" is just too vague and uncertain to consider binding.

Maleshep is staying loyal to Ash, but only because I play him as forgiving, patient and romantic. In my personal opinion, Tali>Ash (and I am not talimancer!) for the same reasons as Garrus>Kaidan.

What bothers me is that it's NOT CHEATING. If you don't see your ex for two years, and then they yell at you and call you a traitor when they see you, and you proceed to have sex with someone else, you've done literally nothing wrong.

Exactly!
I fail to see how choosing another romance in ME2 can be called a cheating in any way. Sorry, ME1 LIs, but it's you who dumped Shep, not the other way around.

Bioware does seem to consider it cheating though. They used the word specifically. Aside from possibly Liara, I don't believe it's really cheating. After all, the romances only start after Horizon.

If you don't want to cheat have multiple playthroughs.

My canon romanced no one in ME1 but romanced Jack in ME2.

If the ME1 LIs consider it cheating, they're gonna need their head examined even more than they do already.
That is, after a shep punch.

Eh, why not. It opens up more/different gameplay options.

I still don't get how it's cheating... Especially with Kaidan... I mean, usually relationships are annulled if you DIE... Furthermore I don't see how a one night stand constitutes a relationship... Heck, it was so rushed and last minute I didn't even realize that being nice to Kaidan would lead to spending the night together XD So am I the only one that doesn't see it as cheating?

Anyways, Garrus is and will always be my partner and lover in Mass Effect :D

You aren't the only one who think it's not cheating. I think it may be cheating with Liara, but not really Ashley and Kaidan.

Well, the ME1 romances are up in the air in ME2 but I think Liara still cares about Shepard.

My femSheps stayed loyal to her (+ the new romance options don't appeal to me)

My maleShep romanced Miranda (single in ME1)

I believe variety is the spice of life. Currently got 8 Sheps going into ME3, listed below their LI status.

Main ParaMaleShep remained loyal to Liara

Main RenFemShep single in ME, romanced Garrus in ME2 (still alive)

Main RenMaleShep single in ME, romanced Miranda in ME2 (still alive)

Main ParaFemShep remained loyal to Kaiden

2nd ParaMaleShep single in ME, romanced Jack in ME2 (died in suicide mission), romanced Miranda post-suicide mission

2nd RenMaleShep romanced Ashley in ME, romanced Jack in ME2 (still alive)

Main MixedFemShep romanced Liara in ME, romanced Thane in ME2 (died suicide mission and so technically it was a 1-night stand, figured would see if there is any difference in a cheating situation if the ME2 LI is dead)

2nd MixedFemShep brand new Shep in ME2 so no ME romance, single in ME2 (as only loyal squadmates were Zaeed and Kasumi)

A personal roleplaying point to consider: If you think the relationship continued after the encounter before you got to Ilos then to some degree it is cheating. If not then it was a one off. You really shouldn't waste any sweat over it.

By the time you get to Horizon and encounter the Virmire Survivor maybe a month or so has passed, maximum, and it's more likely a couple of weeks for you, as Shepard. You were dead, remember.

The only information you could have gotten on them is that they're off-frid (from the TIM) or on a classified mission (from Anderson), nothing more until TIM springs the fact that they are, indeed, on Horizon on you.

The way they react to you is hard to take, but they've gone through the whole denial/rage/grieving cycle by then and tried to move forward. Realistically, how should they react to seeing you there?

Liara is harder to deal with in some ways, she goes from being an open, innocent person with almost nothing in the way of cynicshielding (copyright pending) to deal with people to being this apparently hard cold manipulator of anyone who gets in her way and prevents her from getting to her goals.

*blinks* okaaay, that turned into more of a monologue than I'd planned.

Anyways, my Soldier ParaShep stayed "faithful" to Kaiden and there's no one else she'd really even consider as more than being friends with.

My Sentinel RenShep dropped Liara finding out she gave her body to Cerberus (she's a Colonist/Sole Survivor with, uhh, anger issues...) and took up with Garrus after a little while. They (F/G) make  a better fit personality wise, but I'm looking forward to seeing if they do properly deal with the whole thing in ME3
