Champion is a good idea, gives you better attack, and lets you knock down the enemies when they get too close.

I don't think it matters too much who your party members are, but I would recommend a tank that draws threat away from the archer. Shale would probably be a good companion for a warrior archer.

I've done two warrior archers (out of 22 playthroughs) and loved them both. Picked Champion and Templar for both - the archer him/herself makes a good tank as they are high dex, and with Master Archer you have no slowdown in heavy armor. Open fights with AOS against mages or shattering shot against bad guys, War Cry when they get close, then smite if you need a breather later. I prefer the warrior archer over the rogue archer personally - my rogue archers are usually utility rogues, so they are far less effective because of the split ability demands. The warriors go all dex at the start so they hit harder and more frequently. My secondary weapon set for warrior archers is a dagger and shield - with blood thirst they are not too shabby in melee.

I do the DLCs at the start, so once I get the repeater gloves I keep aim on all the time. Of course they become extremely powerful when you take them into Awakenings and get the Accuracy talent - repeater gloves, aim+accuracy = lots of archery fun.

RE: What party - I typically use one mage, one utility rogue, and two fighters - either warriors or fighter rogues. I would count an archer warrior as a "fighter". I've yet to fail with that setup regardless of what weapons my characters or NPCs use. Two mages is too poweful for my tastes - plus I have fun tinkering with armor and weapons so the more pointy stick users I have, the more tinkering I get to do. Net net, I don't think party setup matters with regard to having an archer or not.

If you don't mind missing out on some of the quests, skipping the utility rogue and going with one mage, two meleers, and an archer is also fun - I'm doing that now with my second warrior archer. Sten and Alistair are dual wielding, I'm archery, and Morrigan as mage. (I use the "Advanced Party" mod which lets you build party members from scratch when they join you.)

Repeater gloves are bugged, so don't be surprised if a patch comes out halfway through your game that nerfs it.

Honestly, I'm not so sure. I thought they were too, until i found out that there's many, many items that have more or less than the "standard" Rapid Fire value.  Off the top of my head, the Howe Bow is -.2, the Antique Warden Crossbow is -.5, and the Dalish Longbow is -.1.  While the Repeater gloves -3.0 seems rather high, it's only the value that sets it as a true outlier, and not that it has a non-standard value.

^ This and...
*Rapid Shot gives -1.0, -2.0 w/ Master Archer and another -1.0 with high dex
*Rock Mastery gives -2.0
*The better bows in DAO (except Mage's Eye) all have -.3 Rapid Aim which puts you at max attack speed already.
*They do not increase aim time of special shots
*All the Repeater Gloves actually accomplish is to allow you to run Aim or Defensive Fire w/o penalty...a badly needed buff for Archery, IMO

I kinda wonder if someone didn't just sneak that in there as a ninja buff to archery, sometimes.

I just finished a warrior-archer playthrough. In the end I had all the archer-talents, some dual weapon skills too. He was champion and reaver, though I never used any reaver-skills. I played on hard, and I really liked it. But: I use ExtraDogSlot-mod, so it gives some extra. Party was Wynne, Shale or Alistair, Zevran as a dualist and lockpicker. And dog.

I like archers, my rogue-archer is still my favorite playthrough (note to self: do it again). But, I always think them more as suporters than damagers. But I think it is very difficult to say others what would work for them, for people have so different playstyles. I know I have my own style to play this game. Experiment! Try! You can always start again!

I hate the fact that Bioware did not give us better ranger-specializations.
