what type of gifts does Alistair like?
I'm wasting a bunch of gifts on Alistair that gets  +0 or +1.

Does he like anything?  He's my indestructable tank and i want to get on his good side.

Aye. You can also find his mother's amulet in Castle Redcliffe, in the Arl's study, right near the entrance to the second floor.

He likes ale buy it from bartenders or Taverns

As mentioned above, his mothers amulet in Redcliffe castle and Duncans Shield (which can be found in the Grey Warden Warehouse later in the game) will give you the best bonuses and unlock special conversations.

Ale doesn't work as well on him as magical things/figurines, but it does okay. It works just about as well on Sten, if you're curious.



As for being an "indestructible tank," he's more dex-heavy than constitution, so not really--unless you've raised him much differently. He tends to die quickly without being healed, but I think he's a fun character anyway.

If you read the Codex entry for any recruitable companion there's generally a note indicating what type of gift you can give them to make them like you more.

or the cheating way ... quicksave ... give any NPC all gifts and remember, which the char liked most ... press F9 and give him only the highest ones :-O

Eh? From what i experienced paintings were actually something Sten loved, surprisingly enough.
Shale is more into the glowing and extraordinary beautifull gems.
