I've seen a lot of people complaining about the inability to take off helmets when in a conversation. My complaint is about the inability to keep them on. In order to wear the helmet you choose at all times, you have to choose a closed helmet. The SENTRY Interface and the Archon Visor both have interesting effects (especially the Arcon Visor), but I can't use them because they get replaced with the N7 Breather Helm when I'm on missions in hostile environment. I know everyone here is all about the cinematic experience of seeing the character they created in conversations, but I'm a much more functional person, and don't mind helmets at all. My problem is that I choose a piece of headgear so that I can wear it in the field, not when the game thinks it's appropriate.

I personally wish they'd have gone with a system a bit more like ME1, with upgrades that do specific things. Like a shield booster that ups your shielding, no matter the type of armor piece you have on. Instead of full armor sets like the Cerberus armor and Blood Dragon, etc, have a few different types of each piece (like they do now, for aesthetic purposes) and different upgrades you can buy/find. Not the endless insanity that was the ME1 upgrade system, but a more streamlined version.

But hey, maybe Bioware will implement this for ME3. (*crosses fingers*)

Maybe because wearing a visor in a toxic enviroment would lead to death?? ....just sayin

This is true. You can wear the recon hood in place of the N7 breather helmet though.

For the Vanguard I'm running now, the Archon Visor would be far more useful than the Recon Hood. But because the Archon Visor isn't a close-faced helm, I can't wear it all the time.

While I understand the logic behind it, it doesn't make it any less annoying.

yeah considering that your squadmates only need to cover their mouth and nose

just wearing a mask that covers the mouth in hostile environments  ...like Kasumi, Jack,  Samara and Mirander is a problem ONLY to Shepard?

..just sayin'  ;)

I feel your pain. I want my Capacitor helmet to be closed up so I can wear it in lieu of the Breather Helmet and Recon Hood. Guess it goes back to the request of toggle helmet.

Yeah, it's ridiculous.  One part of me loves to rant and rave about the idiocy of fools wanting Shepard to run around with his head uncovered in a firefight or in a toxic or vacuum environment.  The other part of me wants to spit and cuss at Bioware for the incredible lack of anything even approaching realism (within the Mass Effect continuity) in the way the NPCs' outfits are treated (including their lack of eye coverage in a chlorine-filled environment).

I guess the last part of me just sits down and sighs and wonders why Shepard's outfits should make sense if his allies' don't.

True, but it would still be nice to get the bonuses, even if you're wearing a visor. I'd hate to lose the bonus from the Kuwashii visor just because he's in a toxic environment.

I don't care since I've seen everything already, but I will agree that most squadmates have retarded headgear that breaks immersion more anyway.

Maybe Shep could maybe take off the full headgear when on illium or omega...no reason to be fully suited up in non combat situations

He should take off the dang armor on Illium or the Citadel.  Maybe even Omega too.

Yay... let's take the armour off so Shepard can get shot and die instantly...

Do you not get the bonus of your chosen headgear in hostile environments? I always thought the N7 replacement was just visual and the numbers didn't actually change, but I never tested it.

You should at least get the option to choose casual gear or armour for running round Illium, Omega. Citadel & Tuchunka.

And why not be able to mix & match so you can have a shield harness & visor when in casual gear ?

Easiest way to test would be with sentry interface.

Jump off on a normal location and note health/shield numbers.

Jump off on a toxic location and note health/shield numbers.

I don't have sentry interface, so I can't do it myself.

You can test it just fine with No Helmet or the Death Mask.

When you're in a hostile environment and defaulted to using the breather helm you do indeed get its bonus.

Well, the question was if you retained your chosen headgear's bonus.

Logic would dictate that it's replaced by the health bonus, but stranger things have happened in bioware games.

I would love to see Tali's reaction to this thread. Poor gal doesn't get to choose ANY kind of helmet! :P

Well, okay, should could try something different and it would only $@#*ing kill her.

Yeah.  While I am a big fan of Miranda's and Samara's respective sweater pillows, they really should take a more sensible approach to combat protective gear.

It always baffles me why Jack is protected by kintetic barriers when she has no armor on that have the emitters to provide said barrier.

And how does Jack's shotgun clip onto the back of her pants without bringing her trousers down around her ankles when she runs?  If she's going to be in street clothes all of the time, then she should be packing the SMG / Heavy Pistol sidearm configuration.

The devs really do need to go back to the ME1 style and have your squaddies wearing combat hard suits and breather helmets where appropriate.

I think they took some liberties with the design. They obviously didn't want everyone in N7-type armor.
Maybe jack/miranda/samara all use barrier and no shield?

Well, that's a major difference from how biotic barriers worked in ME1 without any explanation (well, can someone check the biotic amplifier entry for me? I know they've had a two-generation jump since ME1).

And then there's the fact that soldiers wear armor because it helps protect them when the barriers fall. Not wearing armor because you can project a barrier is like not compartmentalizing your warship because you have armor plating.
