Here are my computers specs,
Processor: AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-75, 2200 Mhz
RAM: 4.00 GB
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Series
is there any reason why dragon age runs slowly - I know about low processer speed but i've played it on a friends pc where the processer is EXACTLY the same. Is it my video card? Or is it horrible Vista?
I have diabled all background tasks and still there is a problem.
Thanks
What is the problem?

Adjust your anti-aliasing in the video settings of the configuration utility.
Seems like if you're experiencing slow gameplay, it's because your graphics card is becoming overloaded.

You're on a laptop? How is the memory on the chip configured? If it's shared video RAM then you're killing yourself as even a clean running Vista needs 2 gb of RAM, which leaves you with 2 gb...and if it's shared RAM then you're reducing that further...

Try setting the graphic card to max performance in the properties of the driver somewhere its possible its running in power save mode or something. Same with cpu set it to max performance, along with fans could be a setting somewhere in the control panel which controls energy saving or somewhere else, I guess it depends on installed software and laptop.
Also try updating your drivers for the gfx card and sound card.
But imo laptops aren't the best system to play "demanding" games on, cause they usually overheat badly and start to throttle down the cpu and gfx card which could be the slowdown you're getting, or just bluescreen/shutdown altogether.
Is your friends PC is it a laptop too?
As the poster before this post said the video ram usually shared with the system ram on laptops.
Try disabling sound in the DA:O configuration program as well and see if it runs better, cause I assume you have onboard sound and don't have a dedicated sound card either, so the processor has to handle everything sound related which could slow it down further, and might cause unclear, stuttering broken up sound etc. If you don't notice any difference its probably something else.

I'm willing to bet the problem is with Vista. Is your friend running Vista as well?

Thanks to all, very much appreciated,
To Herethos - that is exactly right, I do not think that I do have a dedicated sound card as it does stutter occasionally.
I'm not sure if this is important to not but my grahpics card is dedicated. And sadly the latest driver for it is not stored on the amd website although i have been told that there is one.
To JironGhrad - no, my ram is not shared and is not a problem, but thanks for the input. (sorry if that sounded a little rude).
To Prosthetics511 - I agree with you totally.
Edit: Processer: And that was the problem - although it is UBER loud now it is running fast - I am getting a quadcore desktop pc soon so that should fix it.
Thanks

How much video RAM do you have by chance as that makes a big difference (another thread a guy has an NVidia 8800 GTS, but it's the 256mb version and this game will easily make use of 1+ gb cards)?

Yeah it was - however i'm, now encountering another problem - sometimes my game runs quickly - even on full settings, and at other times my game runs so slowly it aint funny - it seems to me that this is random (i have quit all background tasks from). I am guessing Vista is the problem but I cant be sure.
JironGhrad - my video card is 512 dedicated graphics, thanks for the help

you might try setting your game to run with the affinity set to the 2nd core... I did some research and the AMD X2 series processors have a history of oddities when running multicore operations and switching cores mid-application. Also I've seen some evidence to suggest that single core affinity reduces the memory leakage (the reason is that the memory is being utilized and not returned as the core finishes a task, over time it gets worse, two or more cores doing that make a rapid dent where a single core will not)

JironGhrad - how do I set the game to go with the 2nd core?

My problem is that whenever I talk to Shale, the conversation options are those of the first encounter with him, regarding the wrong code words. After exiting the conversation it returns to the normal camera but with all scenery black, with my character and Shale in colour, And I cannot move anywhere. This only occurred after downloading the blood dragon armour, which was done a number of hours after completing the stone prisoner DLC.
Ive checked my CD key is installed as it was suggested this could help, but now I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.
